Rating: Summary: Can I get my money back? Review: I have been a fan of Ms. Kurland for several years and don't ever remember having to force myself to finish a book of hers. This is one of the most pitiful books I have ever read in the romance genre. If I read the word "manly" one more time, I believe I would have been physically ill! All the times the macho behaviour were alluded to just made this book ridiculous and highly unamusing. Maybe she was trying for humor (as it seems to have hit some of the other reviewers as funny), but to me, it was so repetitive it was torturous to read. The poor bride-to-be eating chunks of cheese constantly after magically pulling them from odd places. The poor heroine, Alienore, was such a coward - even when being "brave", she was a coward! Geezz! The woman had no spine. All of the characters were so poorly handled, it was just horrendous. I really don't believe this one ever got past her editors much less published. She has been on my auto-buy list for quite a while. Hopefully, the next book will be a vast improvement on this one - something I am sure Ms. Kurland could do with one hand tied behind her back pecking away at the keyboard.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: I love all of Lynn Kurland's books for the very, very good conversation and interplay between characters. She has me laughing and then crying a minute later. Don't pass her by -- she's wonderful and intelligent.
Rating: Summary: What Happened Review: I Love everthing written by Lynn Kurland, I wait franticly each year for her new books. HOWEVER,this is not her best book. It was wa[...]y to long, the characters were not believable. I mean come on any idiot would have figured things out and for suspense she tryed to drag things out. All it did was bore me to tears which is sad because I think Lynn is an excellent writter. Perhaps she wasnt as inspired by these characters as she usually is. Whatever it was It was hard to read, instead of hard to put down which is how I normaly feel. good luck getting through this book. ITS BORING.
Rating: Summary: a bit disappointing Review: I love Lynn Kurland's books and I really wanted to like this one, but IMHO it was not up to the standard she has set in "My Heart Stood Still", and "Another Chance to Dream"-- just two of my favorites. The female protagonist in the story is not a strong character, and the male protagonist is not well drawn. The plot itself seemed forced and felt 'flat'. When the story was finished, I really didn't know these two people, and didn't care as much about their failures and successes. I know that not every book an author writes is their best work. I think that's the case here. If you are new to Lynn Kurland, start with "A Dance Through Time". If you're already hooked on Lynn's stories, this one won't dissuade you from looking forward eagerly to reading her next offering, but be forewarned that she's not at her best here.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious, wonderful, loving -one of her best Review: I love Ms. Kurland's stories and have never read one I did not like. Colin is too funny even when he tries to be serious, but such a good natured person. Alien'ore is a strong heroine and is so good at humoring Colin. Colin thinks Alien'ore is a boy, Lord Henri and intends to make a good knight out of "Lord Henri". They practice sword fighting, fighting with knives and various and other sundry defense mechanisms. The dialogue is wonderful. Of course, you do have your villian and villianess to contend with. I loved all the characters, including the 3 "witches". Keep up the good work Ms. Kurland. You are one who never disappoints.
Rating: Summary: Good for a sweet romance Review: I never read this author before so I don't know if she is usually a more sweeter style of writer. This book was sweet. The story was interesting and I liked the hero. Just wished it had more hot spots like other books.
Rating: Summary: VERY GOOD!! Review: I really liked this book. I would read more by this author.
Rating: Summary: No payoff Review: I was ok with the idea that the hero isn't perfect, it gets tedious only reading about those men without flaws! It was tedious though, that the heroine squeeks and cries a lot, I couldn't see what he saw in her. It was odd too that the villian was included on every journey, even though everybody knew he was bad. Disappointing that we don't get to finally experience "the first kiss," that happened "behind closed doors."
Rating: Summary: Great Escapist Reading Review: I was on vacation and reading a book that was much too heavy for light reading on my rest breaks or before going to sleep. My search for something light and airy came up with "From This Moment On". I had read Kurland's "The More I See You" and enjoyed it. This book grabs you from the start and pulls the reader into a very enjoyable world of hidden identities, intrique, comedic interludes and, of course, a big smelly blustering scary unmannerly hero with a heart of gold. Sure, the plot is a bit unbelievable (our beautiful heroine pulling off masquerading as a knight for two years) and much of the comedy is at our hero's expense (he comes off occasionally as a cross between Moe from The Three Stooges and The Gladiator, but I found myself knowing these two were meant for each other and enoying the journey. It is hard to get to know the real Alienore when she is masquerading as Henri, but in the second half of the book, she is as beautiful and charming as we would have her be, with a delicious sense of humor to boot. I only gave this book four stars because the characterizations were not as complete as I would have hoped. The character's childhood torments are only hinted at. One point I would give detractors of this book is that the characters do seem sterotypical and could have been drawn a bit better. But the writing is amusing and cheery and perfectly romantic escapist reading. If you are a romantic at heart, you will not be disappointed reading this one!
Rating: Summary: Too Long Review: I was really looking forward to Colin's story which is why I wanted to give it 3 stars instead of 2. The book is too long at 418 pages. About page 234 I had enough. The villian beats up Alienore (French for Eleanor?), again, threatens to tell Colin, again, and she folds up, again. Meanwhile you have spent the last 200 pages reading about how he is teaching Alienore how to fight. Also, by this time she should know Colin would never hurt her no matter what has been said. Colin's character seemed to be a lot sharper in Gillian and Christopher's story, here he is a little dim. What's so amusing about pages of Colin and Alienore fighting/teaching in the mud? I finally skipped about 50 pages of "will he slice my head off or won't he", finished it last night and sit here really annoyed about this book. There is no sexual tension in this story. The courting part was rushed, and the story drags on at the end. If, like me, you wanted to read Colin's story, get it from the library, don't buy it.
