Review: This is the first book I have read by Maggie Shayne. The plot is twisitng and turning at every moment. It will keep you guessing until the heart-stopping climax. The main character, Holly, has been traumitized for many years. When a mysterious man strolls into her town, her nightmares come back to haunt her. This mystery is mixed beautifully with suspense and romance. Don't miss this great read!!

Summary: A Walk on the Dark Side
Review: Vince O'Mally is a detective with the Syracuse police who promises the mother of two missing children that he will find them alive and bring them home. He is devastated when, instead, he finds their savaged bodies in an abandoned house. Hidden under a floorboard in the old house is a copy of a childrens' book, The Gingerbread Man, checked out of an upstate library nearly 20 years ago.

Tracking down the book leads O'Mally to the small town of Dilmun and Holly Newman, whose little sister was abducted while carrying the same book and never seen again. Convinced that the answer lies in Dilmun, O'Mally rents a cabin and digs in his heels to hunt down a child killer. There are more than enough suspects to go around, but Holly can provide little help; she's repressed most of her memories of her sister's abduction. But when a local child goes missing at a Halloween party thrown by a reclusive actor and his very strange niece, Holly finds a core of strength she never knew she had and races with O'Mally against time to find the little girl before it is too late.

The suspense, the romantic element, and the surprise ending make this a great novel to kick back with on a lazy afternoon.

Summary: A Surprise Twist!
Review: When Detective Vince O'Mally follows a lead for a pedophile/child killer to a sleepy small town where nothing bad ever happens, he is surprised to find himself in the role of protector for the sister of one of the victims. The two find themselves attracted to one another, and attracting the attention of a killer.

I truly enjoyed this book! It has great plot, some interesting characters, and a surprise ending that I didn't guess! I'm usually pretty good at guessing the whodunnit and the so-called twists in the books, but in this case I was surprised. I definitely recommend it!

Summary: Sweet and Scary
Review: When gruff looking detective Vince O'Mally fails in his latest attempt to save the victims of a gruesome child-killer, he takes his search to upstate New York in the guise of a much needed vacation. Based on a solitary clue that may or may not be linked to any of the crimes, Vince is convinced that there may still be hope to save others. His hero complex causes trouble when he meets Holly Newman, an apparently needy and troubled woman whose very own sister was abducted and never seen again, leaving her feeling guilty for her part in the tragedy. Her memory of the event has several gaps in it, and she is troubled by the feeling that she may know more than she remembers. Furthermore, her increased inexplicable uneasiness at recent events seem to be leading her further into her compulsions for order and routine. Vince soon senses the cases may be connected, and the ensuing threats to his and Holly's safety seem to prove it. Not knowing whom to trust in the close-knit town, the two embark on a suspenseful and romantic hunt for the killer. Scenes of raging storms and Halloween images bring the story alive, making it an ideal read for a cozy night in front of the fire place.
