Summary: quick has written better...
Review: "Desire" took a while to get to any weighty plot of any sort. i think it wasn't until about 2/3 of the way through the book, when things started happening. the beginning 2/3 is just about the hero & heroine getting to know each other, of Gareth insulting Clare because he totally believes she isn't a virgin, of us being told how much Gareth wants LAND of his own & how no one is going to take it away from him, and of how Clare isn't going to start letting this man give orders around her island. so basically the plot of the first 2/3 of the book is twofold, when will gareth realize clare is a virgin and how will these two characters, who are both so used to being boss, compromise & live together in harmony? not very breathtaking plots indeed. with the introduction of one of the villagers' murder, the measly plots thicken. however, it is not too long into this new string of mystery, that the culprit becomes quite obvious. there is one mystery that came as quite a delightful surprise in the very ending, which would have been obvious to me had i been paying slightly more attention to this somewhat boring tripe. ms. quick sticks to her normal heroine recipe & this heroine is extremely into making perfume and pretty smelling things & makes a lot of money in the process. however, i only received a little more knowledge about perfume making than i already had, & i know barely anything about making perfume. so i'd say this character & the information revealed about her special hobby wasn't up to quick standard. however, despite all this, the story was still fun to read, even though it was a little slow going and it wasn't up to quick standard. and because quick has a way of creating a fun atmosphere i still give the book 2 stars, despite its shortcomings. (AND, who wants to carry a book around with the ridiculous title "DESIRE"???)

Summary: Ah, for the good old Quick days
Review: After reading some of her recent (very) idiotic books, I went back to the book that got me started on AQ. I swear, it does not compare. THIS is a wonderful story. But lately, all her books are THE SAME: Bluestocking/spinster obsessed with unfashionable stuff (metaphysics, ancient cultures, godawful precious stone, unsolved something or other, etc) hires man of affairs (I swear, if AQ uses that phrase ONE MORE TIME) and even though she has kept herself pure, she has sex with him at the first opportunity. Then, there will be a sex scene in some bizarre setting (cave, dusty museum, etc) and some run of the mill complication, but, aided by their nutball relatives/house staff/friends, the mystery is solved/treasure found/murder solved, etc, and there you have it. In the godforsaken case Ms. Quick reads this. Please please, stop assembly-line-ing your books. I have a computer program that does better, and I want a hero and heroine I have not met before, for god's sakes.

Summary: Strong and entertaining.
Review: As always I love Amanda Quicks books!. I have to admit I have not read all of them but I believe I'll remedy that soon. I just ordered two more and trust they will be as outstanding as this one. I love the strong willed nature of Amandas' charactures! I switch between Futuristic romance novels and "knights in shining armor" types. Amandas books always make the mark!

Summary: Breathtaking!
Review: As any avid Amanda Quick reader knows, she usually sticks to the London 'ton' for her settings, but in _Desire_ she uses the middle ages as her backdrop and it is glorious! As is evident in all her works, Ms. Quick has a talent for bringing an atmosphere to life and such is definitely the case with _Desire_. The setting for this story is a remote British isle known as 'Desire' -- a land rich in flowers which thrives on the perfume trade that results from cultivating those blossoms. Ms. Quick describes the panorama so wonderfully that you will feel as if you can smell the endless fragrances of the isle. Not only is the scenery captivating, the characters are vibrant, lively and fascinating. Gareth is strong, brave and somber. When he arrives on the isle it is reputed that he never laughs. Clare is energetic, loyal and just exactly what Gareth needs to bring laughter into his life. Again, Ms. Quick delivers characters so well suited for each other that it is inevitable that they fall in love. As is always the case with Ms. Quick's work, _Desire_ is full of humor. This is clearly apparent in the scene following the wedding night -- it is classic and oh-so-funny! It had me very nearly rolling on the floor! Though not as prominent as in some of her stories, the mystery comes into play near the end and drives the book on to an exciting and touching finale. I was once again amazed by Ms. Quick's ability to snare a reader from the first and keep the story so exciting that it is impossible to stop reading. All in all, _Desire_ is a delightful gem of a story full of love, laughter and heady aromas that will leave you wanting more. Possibly the only thing that could have made this book more enjoyable would have been a glimpse into the future of our couple. If you're interested in seeing another book by Ms. Quick set in the middle ages, try _Mystique_. It is of the same high quality and showcases Ms. Quick's flare to adapt to any setting be it the ton or medieval times.

Summary: One of Quick's Best!
Review: Desire by Amanda Quick is one of her most humorous, with a great mystery, endearing characters, and a page turning love story. Lady Clare of the Isle of Desire knows she needs a husband to protect isle and shipments of perfume that provide Desire with its income. Therefore, she devises a "recipe" for her perfect husband, but she gets Gareth of Wyckmere.

The bastard son of Clare's liege lord, Gareth has long had to work for what he has and has desperately wanted land and a home of his own, and he is determined to have Desire as well as its enchanting lady. However, Clare is convinced that he simply won't do. Despite the fact that he knows how to read, he is too big, too trained for war, and lacks a sense of humor and pleasant disposition! Clare's problem is that her only other option is her neighbor, who she will marry over her dead body, so she chooses the lesser of the two evils.

Reading the love bloom between these two characters was such a pleasure. Their arguments were amusing and the book was so funny it had me laughing out loud with tears streaming down my face. The bit about the chicken's blood was priceless, but you have to read it for yourself to find what I am referring to. The characters were also wonderful, both being intelligent, resourceful, and they were a perfect foil to each other. They truly brought out the best in each other, which is why I liked them so much. Secondary characters such as young William and his overprotective mother Joanna, as well as the minstrel Dallen added a fun flare to an already wonderful story.

I recommend this book highly and believe that it is one of Quick's very best books. If you like this one I also recommend her other medieval Mystique, and wish you Happy Reading!

Summary: Different, Funny, and great fun to read!
Review: I continue to enjoy Ms. Quick's books. Her novels are full and sponk and humor. Beginning with the unusual circumstances bring the couple together. The differences between the two leads are what make the story great. A great big, humorless knight amongst the people of Desire making perfume! The wedding night and its aftermath is extremely funny. I read it several times to get all the funny lines. The flower bin scene is also lovely and funny. Both situations caused our hero to break out in laughter which alarmed his closest friends. I would have loved to see Clare preganant with his child at the end of the book. Great fun to read!

Summary: I LOVED IT!
Review: I really liked this book, I thought it was a beautifully told love story, as well as very funny. I loved the characters, I found myself falling for the male lead once again. This is the first Amanda Quick, and, after reading this book, I plan to read many more!

Summary: The best one!!
Review: I think this book is one of the Amanda Quick's best jobs. The characters are very powerful and they made me laugh in many situations. It's true that the mistery is not so, but still the story is dinamic and fun.... and lovely.
