Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. Review: I read this book in one day..I could not stay away! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! My housework suffered for the day, yes..but OH! It was sooo worth it! I loved EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS STORY...Brandon was to die for and I adored Verena. I thought the story was interesting and I felt that the author did a fantastic job of not only developing the characters, but making sure that other aspects of the plot didnt overshadow the h/h and their growing love for one another. This was my first book by this author..Im so excited to have found her ! I cant wait to read about Chase!!!
Rating: Summary: Pass the Visine, please! Review: I save my five stars for those books that so engage me that I can't put them down. My eyes may be red and sore now, but boy, I spent a great afternoon reading this book! Two very strong, very witty leads with intriguing histories, plus a small herd of nosy brothers lurking in the background and a very colorful butler give this book spice and life. A solid mystery is afoot with scary threats, and yet the book remains humorous and sexy as all get-out. This is a Regency historical of the keeper variety! Karen Hawkins has improved greatly from when I first read her (and she was pretty good even back then). I look forward to tracking down the books of hers that I have overlooked and future volumes (there are all those brothers to deal with, of course). A note to the marketing department: if the book has a heroine who's got a little flesh on her, please don't depict her on the back cover as a skinny supermodel type!
Rating: Summary: Good book Review: I won't write a review of the story because well I think by now reading the reviews you know waht the story is about. I will say I really liked this book. It goes along really well with the other ones. I also like that it ties in with "The further observations of Lady Whistledown". Its nice to get caught up on everyone. Thats all for now. Ohh I can't wait to read about the next brother
Rating: Summary: Karen Hawkins Just Gets Better and Better Review: I've been "glomming" Karen Hawkins since The Abduction of Julia and my expectations for this author have been surpassed quite wonderfully! If you are in the mood for a book that will make you laugh out loud and impress you with details, this is the book for you! I was continually surprised by the "little things" such as: The morning meeting between the St. John brothers ("Perhaps we should call for a nice cool pitcher of water... that should get this slugabed on his feet.") - Who hasn't been threatened with cold water in order to wake up! Herberts ("Oiye trys to keep up wif me hobbies!") Talk about laugh out loud funny! Poole's concern for his employer (the "vile stuff" to help a hangover and the "punch drink" for a sore throat) Verena's payback for Brandon's assuptions (the necklet was an added bonus) The love scene in the sitting room struck a cord. It wasn't adding an "unnecessary" love scene (as so many authors are guilty of) but showed the couple's love. The entire scene was romantic without being sappy. If I continue I will end up spoiling the fun so let me end this by saying I look forward to all future books by this amazing author, especially Chase's story :)
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Amazing! Review: its a great book - Ties good in with the two previous books involving the St. John family. Brandon St. John, even while being a scoundrel, is great! Verena...well she turns out to be a lady who can definitely hold her own! Can't wait for the story on Chase!!
Rating: Summary: Can't wait for the next one!! Review: This family saga is great and I can't wait for the next in the series! This was Brandon's story, and boy was it hard to put down! Brandon is voted to take care of a little female problem whom asweres to the name of Verena. Verena is thought by the brother's to be a fortune hunter (at least if the rumors of the Ton are to be believed)and that she has her sights set on Chase St. John. Brandon sets out to pay Verena off with the understanding that she will stop seeing their brother Chase. Little does Brandon know but, Verena has already gently told Chase she won't marry him. Verena is a different kind of woman. She is a widow who loved her husband despite all of the unkind things that are whispered about her. She lives on the fringes of good society but still manages to hold her head up. She is fine with things until the darkly handsome, sinfully sexy, arrogant St. John shows up at her door with a check in hand requesting she leave his brother alone. She accepts the check, but not for the reasons Brandon thinks. She accepts it so she can mock him. She makes a centerpiece for her table out of the check! Brandon finds himself drawn to the lovely Verena and soon finds out that she is in danger. Now he must do all he can to protect her after a man that attended one of her dinner parties is found dead in the Thames. Soon threatning letters are sent to her house, addressed to her brother requesting a list that is wanted not only by the blackmailer, but bythe Home Office. Of course no one knows what is on this list or where the list is especially Verena and her brother. As a result Verena and Brandon get to know each other, and they both find that they are falling in love each other, but declaring their love for each other must be put on hold until the mystery surrounding the missing list is solved. This is a fast paced book with wonderful secondary characters like Verena's butler Herberts, and of course the dashing St. John brothers! The chemistry between Brandon and Verena is wonderful and I was sad when I reached the end of the book. If you have been reading the series you won't want to miss this book!

Rating: Summary: Wonderful read!! Review: This is a great story, full of adventure, humor and romance (wonderful, steamy romance). I want to know where I can find me a St John. I can't wait until Chase's story comes out. I have read every one of Ms. Hawkin's books and I haven't been disapointed yet. She is a great author.
Rating: Summary: Sexy, funny and stimulating Review: This is another book in the series begun with "The Abduction of Julia". It centers now around the St. John 'talisman ring' which rumor has it that whichever St. John is in possession of the ring will find their one true love. With this novel the ring rests in the pocket of renowned scoundrel Brandon St. John who must decide if it is a blessing ... or a curse as he has yet to find a woman that holds his interest for more than two weeks! Drawing the short straw, so to speak at the latest St. John family gathering Brandon has been assigned the task to 'buy off' an undesirable demimonde from the attentions of their younger brother Chase. These St. John men, all handsome to a fault and wealthy to boot have had much experience in thwarting the attentions of marriage minded mamas and their daughters so Brandon, the handsomest of the lot, thinks that this shouldn't take him more than a few minutes time. Expecting a hard, painted, money-hungry grasping widow, the Lady Verena Westforth was definitely out of the ordinary. Lady Verena - blond lovely and indeed enticing - she would put the arrogant, pompous Brandon St. John in his place! Along with the lovely and comical battle of the sexes, there is a mystery and a murder to solve in which Verena is smack dab in the middle. Verena has grown to enjoy her independence until this wonderfully handsome man has aroused feelings she thought long dead. Her family background and secrets could destroy her should the investigations uncover her past - but more than that she could very well lose her heart. This was a really good story with the added excitement and mystery of a murder and hunt for a missing list. The characters are extremely well developed, intelligent, and interesting. The introduction of Verena's butler in training - Herbert - the reformed(?) pickpocket provides numerous light hearted moments and the love scenes as Brandon, that handsome devil - shows us his stuff - well he is HOT! Excellent read which I can highly recommend.
