Summary: Can She Put Aside Her Feelings and Do Her Job?
Review: Twenty-three-year old Carla Maxwell is a reporter for the Phoenix- Herald who grew up on her father's small town newspaper back in Georgia, so though she's young, she knows the ropes. She has been asked to cover Presidential advisor Joel Blackwell's speech at a local civic organization. However earlier in the day the newspaper she works for got a story wrong that they had done on Mayor Bryan Moreland, a mucho charismatic man who a few years back lost his wife and eight-year-old daughter to a drunk driver. Moreland glares daggers at her during the function and blasts her at the cocktail party afterwards, telling her she should go back to journalism school. She doesn't get a chance to say it wasn't her fault.

Later, as the function is ending, Moreland finds out the truth and attempts a feeble apology, then says goodnight. Out on the street Carla is approached by thugs who obviously don't have her best intentions at heart. But before they can harm her, Moreland arrives, easily handles the misguided young men, then agrees to let Carla do a story on him. And that is just the beginning of this tense, but easy to read romance. Carla and the Mayor are attracted to each other, but there are rumors about a land deal and a lot of missing money. Was Mayor Bryan Moreland involved? Like it or not, it's Carla's job to find out.

This is an easy to read romance with a storyline that was fun to follow and characters that were worth knowing. If you're a fan of Diana Palmer's and you missed this one, you should search it out.
