Rating: Summary: Regency Romance -Highly recommended Review: A family legend passed down through the centuries transforms a token of love into a curse. Just before her execution for infidelity, Anice of Lockhart arranged to have an emerald hid in the belly of a small, ugly carving. Now rumor holds that no Lockhart woman will find love without facing the Devil. Knowledge of the jewel died, leaving only rumor of fortune. In 1816, Navy Navy Captain Liam Lockhart sets out to recover the beastie from the English Lockharts, hoping to save his Scottish family from loosing their home and property. Liam's careful plans eventually lead him to the English Lockharts. But while in London he rents a room where he meets nine-year-old Natalie, who expertly slips into his room for frequent visits despite his protestations. Eventually their acquaintance leads him to her mother Ellen. Liam falls in love with Ellen, but her desperation to provide a new life for her daughter leads to drastic measures when she steals the beatie herself. Liam vows to follow Ellen and to retrieve the beastie for his family as well as to avenge his honor. Author Julia Lodon pens a riveting frolic in HIGHLANDER UNBOUND. A delightful plot will hold the reader enthralled as Liam disposes of mice and picks roses in Hyde Park. On the one hand he is incredibly charming and on the other hand his brashness provides wonderful entertainment. Ellen's desperation will strike a cord with those sympathetic to her plight. Certainly Liam and Ellen find themselves at seemingly irreconcilable crossroads, resulting in a marvelously told tale. Natalie proves a bit too precocious to be plausible at times; nonetheless, she still adds a wonderful humorous element. HIGHLANDER UNBOUND comes highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Julia London rocks! Review: Both the hero and the heroine were rather annoying in this one. Why did she give him such a thick Scottish accent? He sounded like a character from an Austin Powers movie.

Rating: Summary: I don't know what book the other reviews read . . . Review: but the book I read was not very good. I usually like Julia London, so I ran out and bought this one (even with the HORRIBLE cover). I should have taken the cover to heart: Sometimes you CAN judge a book by its cover. The hero is boring. And the idea that a man raised as the eldest son of a Laird doesn't know the first thing about how to behave in a city (washing his clothes in the park; hunting in Hyde Park; etc.) is simply unbelievable. Not to mention the whole deal with his kilt and gillies. As an officer, her wouldn't have worn a kilt. As a Scott, he wouldn't have been wearing a kilt (this is post Jacobite rebellion, and he's not a Highlander anyway), and gillies were long gone by this time. The heroine is a drip, and not a particularly nice person either, and there's simply no chemistry there. She's lonely, and he's over sexed. Great, that makes for true love, especially in the face of theft and betrayal. Even the child is annoying. Give this one a miss. Save your $7 for one of the great books coming out in March.
Rating: Summary: fantastic!!! Review: Even though it is 1816 and a few years have passed since the armed combat ended, Navy Captain Liam Lockhart still suffers from battle fatigue. However, he has other concerns besides his nightmares as his family is broke. He agrees with the proposal to steal back a gold beastie heirloom from the English branch of the family for the Scottish Lockharts to sell. In London in the house where he rents a room at usury rates he meets nine year old Natalie, granddaughter of his nasty landlord. Through the child who constantly visits him, Liam meets Ellen, the lass' mother. Liam falls in love with Ellen, but she seduces the location of the heirloom from him and steals it to insure a future for Natalie. Liam is filled with rage and a need of vengeance for he allowed passion to hurt his family and devastate his honor. He will follow Ellen's trail to wherever it leads, for he will regain the beastie and avenge the betrayal. Readers will appreciate this exciting Regency romance in which a sailor scorned is someone to beware of as Ellen will learn. Natalie is too precocious though readers will understand her need for any companionship beyond her mom while her grandfather is a very odious a soul who deserves an eternity of loneliness. The lead couple is a delightful duo, who make the tale, as Ellen feels bad for what she did to the man she loves, but like any lioness feels her first priority is her cub. Fans will enjoy this interesting tale. Harriet Klausner

Rating: Summary: A fantastic romp Review: Fabulous book! Really unique hero and story and so hot the pages were burning. Its a great mix of humor and deep emotion. I read it in one sitting and can't wait until the next one comes out! This one is definitely going to a prime spot on my keeper shelf
Rating: Summary: Not very interesting. Review: I expected a lot of this book, because this author is normally very good. I was disappointed by the thin plot line, lack of depth in the characters, and the repetitive prose (if Liam referred to Ellen as an "angel" one more time, I was going to scream). Although there was adequate background on Ellen, we never really understood what made Liam tick. The author repeatedly referred to the fact that he was a soldier, as if that completely explained who he was. This is so different from this author's "Regent Street" series, where her male characters are described very thoroughly and eloquently. I hope the next books in the series will improve.

Rating: Summary: My first Julia London! Review: I just loved this book! i cannot say enough about it! Liam was so funny I was laughing out loud, and yet he was so sweet and caring. It was so wonderful watching his relationship with Ellen's daughter grow. And he and Ellen had such a wonderful relationship....until she betrayed him. But, as a mother I can understand her desperation, so didnt feel to harshly about her in the end. I literally almost cried when she left the way she did and he was asking her how she could do that to him and his family. This book is wonderful and I look forward to more of Julia London's books!!
