Rating: Summary: Another great Robert's story... Review: One of the reasons I love many of Nora Roberts books is her ability to intertwine a romance novel with a mystery/suspense story. Sweet Revenge is all three, touching, exciting, and rewarding. I really enjoyed this story...
Rating: Summary: NOT the BEST but still good Review: Sweet Revenge is pretty different from other Nora Roberts' works due to the fact that part of the story took place at Jaquir, a Middle-east country. The story began with the marriage between Jaquir's King, Abdu, and a famous American actress, Phoebe. But the love between these two was not longlasting. Abdu treated Phoebe with so much cruelty that their only daughter, Princess Adrianne, suffered from nightmares even when she was in her twenties. For both she and her daughter's own good, Phoebe decided to bring Adrianne and try to escape from Abdu's clutches. With the help of Phoebe's best friend, they escaped to America. Adrianne was only eight then but she never forgot the cruelty her father shown to her and her mother. She grew up with revenge in her mind, that is, to steal his most precious jewel, the Sun and the Moon. This piece was given to her mother with love from her father. But out of hatred, her father took it back. Most characters in this book this book are very likeable. Adrianne was a very determined young lady but I don't understand how she could polish up her stealing skills with no guidance at all and these skills of hers were really superb. Philip was not like any other hero. He was a romantic, supported Adrianne when she was down and he was not stubborn. What was most attractive about Philip was: He loved his mother! Phoebe was a very sad character, maybe because of her fate. But her great love for Adrianne and the determination to protect her were really admirable. For Abdu, I have only one word to describe him: HATEFUL. There are many other loveable characters such as Celeste, Phoebe's best friend; Adrianne's grandmother; Adrianne's brother... I think that this book came alive from the part when Philip and Adrianne met. I'm sure those of you who want to read this book will like it, but you have to bear with a few boring parts.
Rating: Summary: One of Roberts' very best! Review: Sweet Revenge is quite simply magnificent! I read it years ago and was thrilled when it was re-released. I don't much care for thieves, but Nora has a way -- in this book, in her earlier one, Hot Ice, and in her later one, Honest Illusions -- of making thieves truly honorable... quite a feat in my opinion since I think "honor among thieves" is an oxymoron! The plot, showing Adrianne's past and how it has molded her present, is fabulous. I loved Jaquir and I enjoyed my visit there. :-) I especially loved Adrianne and Philip's wedding... beautiful! The secondary characters were not mere foils but truly contributed to the story. Abdu was thoroughly reprehensible; Celeste, strong and loving; Mary, wise; and Phoebe, sweet and surprisingly dynamic in her struggle with mental illness. This is a once-in-a-lifetime story. Savor it because not many books of this magnitude come along. Take a bow, Nora!
Rating: Summary: Entertaining but not the best Review: Sweet Revenge was prabably my 20th Nora Roberts novel. I am a true fan but I find that while the book was entertaining it was also very predictiable and seems that it was modeled after countless other contemperary romances. This novel reminds me of another Nora Roberts novel that is much better - Honest Illusions, truely the best she's ever written and also my first Roberts book. If you enjoy stories with cat burglers with a touch of romance you really should read If Tommorrow Comes- by Sidney Shelden, truly in my opinion the best in it's class.
Rating: Summary: Sweet Revenge ? Review: The hardest part of reading this book was the beginning. I hated it and loved it. I hated it because there was such misery for Adrianne's mother, Phoebe Spring and I loved it because it hooked me up with its cruelty. It was also tempting to flip to the back and just find out but I didn't want to ruin the whole thing. Phoebe Spring, a western woman, lives in Jaquir (a Muslim world), supposedly living in a wonderland with her so called loving husband. But underneath all that *love* is a husband that treats her cruelly. (He beats and rapes her) Her husband Abdu didn't always treat her this way, he used to love her but all that changed when she gave birth to a daughter, Adrianne. After Adrianne, Phoebe could no longer have anymore children and because of that Abdu despised her and treated her very badly. Phoebe could have left him but she didn't because she wouldn't be able to take Adrianne with her and she loved Adrianne too much to leave her. So Phoebe stuck by and turned to alcohol and drugs to pass her days. Then one day when Abdu told her that he plans to send Adrianne away and then Phoebe knew she had to get away. With the help of her friend, Celeste, Phoebe was able to runaway with her daughter to New York. In New York she was able to get a divorce but her life still went down hill. Before Phoebe met Abdu, she was an actress and a very good one. In New York, she contacted her agent to try to get some acting parts. But instead Phoebe got played because during her time in Jaquir she was left totally battered and now she's too weak to make the right choices. She totally depended on drugs and alcohol and in the end she died because of her depression and inner demons. Adrianne on the other hand was opposite of her mother. While her mother slowly declined in the social ladder, Adrianne's social status rose. Plus the fact that she was still a Princess, no matter what. Adrianne had the toughest time because she slowly watched her mother die a little bit more but now that she's 25, she plans to get revenge on her father, by stealing The Sun and the Moon. This isn't a rash decision on her part, she had practice on stealing but she's not interested in the jewels, it's the thought that came with the jewels. It was a gift from her father to her mother and it meant a lot to her mother. When Phoebe left Jaquir, she had to leave that behind and even Abdu values it because of it's worth (money wise) Adrianne is just on the verge of her mission to take the Sun and the Moon back when Philip Chamberlain comes along. He's clever, charming and handsome and he also has something in common with Adrianne...he's a thief but a retired one. Philip wants to help but for reasons that Adrianne refuse to believe. Together they will journey to Jaquir and begin on their mission in revenge, against the man that has killed her mother's soul. I loved everything except the end. The ending was so abrupt and kinda killed off the story. Nora Roberts could've made the ending a bit longer. Another thing I hated was that Nora Roberts didn't throw any curves at you. I wouldn't say it was predictable but it wouldn't hurt if there were more obstacles along the way. I kept expecting it but in the end there were none, which was kinda disappointing. There were a few bad points but I wouldn't say it was totally bad. ^_^ ~ Izzy

Rating: Summary: boring... Review: This book started out fast and then died. I kept wanting to skip to the end to see how it turned out, but eventually I gave up and it's been sitting on my bookshelf ever since. It was more of a mystery novel than a romance. I read at least half the book and the romance still didn't happen. Did the heroine ever actually meet the detective? Was that the romance part of the book? It kept dragging and dragging and dragging. I kept saying to myself, "When are they going to meet each other?" The half of the book I did read only had about 2 scenes with the detective. The rest of it was yada, yada, yada about the mother and her problems with life. It was nothing about the heroine. Only a diehard Nora fan is going to give this book a 4 or 5 star.
Rating: Summary: Nora Roberts surprised me! Review: This book was much darker than most of Nora Robert's other books. I enjoyed it but at times I felt like I was reading another author. I think that's great though that after all these books she can still surprise devoted readers.
Rating: Summary: THE WORST Review: THIS BOOK WAS ONE OF THE WORST I HAVE EVER READ! THERE'S RAPE, ATTEMPTED RAPE OF A YOUNG GIRL, DRUGS, AND DEPRESSION. BESIDES THAT IT'S BORING AT TIMES, AND NEVER EXPLAINS HOW ADRIENNE LEARNED HOW TO STEAL. ALSO, NORA ROBERTS WOULD REPEAT INFORMATION OVER AND OVER AGAIN AS THOUGH SHE WERE JUST TRYING TO TAKE UP SPACE. THE BOOK LEFT ME DEPRESSED AND VERY DISAPPOINTED. I'M GLAD I DIDN'T BUY IT, BUT I WISH I HADN'T READ IT. I HAVE READ OTHER BOOKS BY NORA ROBERTS, AND HAVE LIKED ALL OF THEM UP TILL NOW. IF YOU WANT A GREAT BOOK OF HERS TRY "JEWELS OF THE SUN." I CAN'T WAIT TO READ THE NEXT BOOK OF THAT SET.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: This is an absolutly wonderful book. From the luxury of Hollywood to thrilling midnight thefts; this book will keep you reading. It also will make you proud to be in the land of the FREE. Best-selling author Nora Roberts does it again. Her romantic suspense novels are always thrilling! Keep 'um coming!
