Rating: Summary: Too Quick to Judge Review: I have been reading all the reviews to the Deadly Series and I am disappointed in what people say. This series was not written so that the end of each book was the end of the entire series. Also the time frame in which the books occur is only two weeks per book, so the pace in alot slower than it would be if it was just one book. The second aspect is that the characters continue to grow and develope in the next two books. I have read the enitre series and thought it was some great work by Brenda Joyce. The Deadly Series did not start off as a romance series, but more of a historical mystery/suspense series, the romance begins to develope in the end of Deadly Love and continued on into Deadly Pleasure. Each book was better than the next in my opinion. In the fourth book, Deadly Desire, the relationship between the characters have heated up considerably. I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out.

Rating: Summary: Wonderful!! Review: I have loved this series by Brenda Joyce - and am so "wrapped up" in the love stories entertwined in the books. I am anxious to see the turmoils overcome, the love that is evident to be able to be shared - and I suppose live happy and wonderful "storybook lives" - but also to see the crime stories and their solving to continue.
Rating: Summary: Deadly Pleasure Review: I loved all of Brenda Joyce's previous books. I purchased this based upon how much I enjoyed her other writings. This book was not only not interesting but down right boring. It in no way can this compare the any of her others. In fact, I could not even finish the book. The main character couldn't hold my interest and the story was just okay. I hope this book isn't an indication of her books to come!
Rating: Summary: Deadly Pleasure - A REAL PLEASURE!! Review: I loved Deadly Love But I Adore Deadly Pleasure. Francessa and Rick are wonderful characters as are all the other characters in this series. There are many sub-plots and twists. There is so much passion and detail in this story I feel like I am right there with them. The Deadly books are set in 1902 New York City and Brenda Joyce discribes everything in such detail I get a mental picture right away of what is going on in the story. There are 2 more Deadly books to be released in April (Deadly Affairs) and May (Deadly Desire). I am so excited about these books and I hope we see many more in this series.
Rating: Summary: Good, but Joyce is overconfident in her readership Review: I must wholeheartedly agree with another critic who expressed frustration with the on-going series' lack of conclusion concerning the main romance. This novel is number 2 in the series of 4 (so far) and, reading ahead (in the [Amazon.com] critiques), I discovered that the romance is still not resolved by #4. I think Joyce has misjudged her readership. Readers of romance novels like to think of one special hero and one special heroine finally realizing their love and getting married. Romance-novel readers don't usually like to think that the heroine or hero could fall in love with someone else. Yet, in this series, the heroine seems to be caught between two brothers and, by number four, readers still do not know which one she'll choose. I've read #1 (Deadly Love) & #2 (Deadly Pleasure), and I love the characters and the plots; however, I've decided not to read the rest of the novels in this series until I'm sure that Joyce has resolved the love conflict (I look ahead in the [Amazon.com] critiques to find out what's going on). Enough is enough! Joyce should go ahead and resolve the love triangle; she can still keep Franscesca and Bragg as main characters and focus the romance part on other characters.
Rating: Summary: Captivating book Review: I usually never review books but I was so dissappointed that this book got such an overall low star rating. So I decided to put in my two cents and back brenda joyce. This book was great! The people who gave it a low star rating must not have read the first book Deadly Love. Some people thought the characters weren't fully developed but you have to read both books to really get a sense of the characters. Unlike many authors who write sequals, Joyce doesn't spend a lot of time re-capping the events of the first book in the second book. She assumes that the second book will be read exactly how it is meant to be read--as a continuation of the first. But even without reading the first book, Deadly Pleasures keeps you on your toes and excited to see what happens next. It is a great read. Bragg and Cahill are two strong people who will keep you captivated.
Rating: Summary: Not Really a Romance Review: I wanted to read this for the fresh setting and time--New York, 1902. Joyce does a fantastic job of making me see the surroundings, furnishings, sounds and smells. However, halfway through the book something hit me: The [...]the heroine embarrasses herself by continually throwing herself at him. He's told her at least five times in no uncertain terms there can be nothing between them. To my mind, that leaves romance out of the picture.
The dialogue is distracting. Nobody speaks in contractions. It's always "I do not think. I will be going. I hope you are not intending. You do not mean that!" Some other irritating character quirks, such as Francesca constantly "gasping" and in one 3-page scene she wet her lips four times. Why even once, I don't know.
I appreciate the picture she paints of that period in NY history. It's colorful and glamorous to read about. But I agree with other readers that Calder Hart would've made a better "hero" instead of that surly, nasty stiff, Bragg.
Rating: Summary: No mystery, no romance... Review: I was extremely disappointed w/Deadly Pleasure. The mystery takes up 5 pages in the beginning, 5 pages at the end and is all but forgotten in the 300 pages in between. The heroine Francesca Cahill is supposed to be a clever sleuth and charmingly naive, but instead came across as nosy and clueless. There is not enough interaction between the heroes to make us believe they would fall madly in love w/each other. I was irritated all the way to the end when the idiot savant once again solves the crime before the superfluous hero rescues her...again.
Rating: Summary: ++ Review: I would definitely rate this book and the Cahill/Bragg series a 10. I think this is the best mystery/romance series (after J.D. Robb of course) that has come along in a while. It is different. All of the characters have so much depth that they seem like real people and I am very glad to see that there are two more books to the series coming out in April and May of this year. I can't wait. Definitely recommended, definitely a keeper!
