Summary: Captivating...Intense
Review: This was the first romance book I had ever read, and now I am a serious Bertrice Small fan. From the first page I was captivated by the intensity. If only we could all love with so much of our being. I find those that dislike this book need to rediscover love, lust and the inner passions of life.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good but could be better
Review: This is the first book I read from Bertrice Small and it made me depressed. The romance in this book was at a bare minimal. Though the heroine is a victim of circumstance, she doesn't think of herself as one. What I found really annoying and cold blooded about this book was that she could give herself willingly and lovingly to other men although she loved karim.Though it was necessary to her welfare that she accept her fate, did she have to love it? What happened to true love? Good plot but graphic and erotic contents.

Summary: Wow!!
Review: This is a very sexy book. How refreshing! If you are looking for a typical romance novel, stay away. Ms. Small's books are sexy and hot and historically accurate. This book is one of her hotter books, but it is fantastic! I love the story. I love the heroine, and I have read it and reread it countless times!!

Summary: Good read
Review: I read this book while my boyfriend was out of town, and I must say it wasn't bad company. I first read 'The Kadin' as an impressionable young girl, and this book cemented my harem fantasy for life. 'The Love Slave' offers more of the same, albeit an even more implausible plot.

But hey, I don't read these books for a dose of reality. (:

The ending was fairly laughable, with the demise of the rogue Ali Hassan. I was unsure as to wht there was no resolution regarding the fate of Regan/Zaynab's sister back in Scotland -- I kept expecting her or one of her brethren to pop up in Cordoba, but was disappointed.

Highly entertaining title, will keep you warm at night.

Summary: Sleazy...skanky...slutty sex!
Review: I needed a shower after reading this potpourri of porno, pillage and pretense!

Ok, alliteration aside, this books is a poor excuse for a romance. There is no romance--just sex ad nauseum.

I am no prude, but I like a plot here and there in my novels. And, lest we forget, a little romance would be nice too. This should be reclassified as historical erotica because the love scenes were devoid of love, the characters were hard to relate to and in some cases downright unlikable, and the ending was trite.

I miss the books Small used to write...I guess all good things must come to an end!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Definitely erotica at its fullest.....
Review: Choosing a rating for this book is very difficult because I don't want to scare anyone away with only 3 stars, BUT BE WARNED, this story is NOT for everyone. Beatrice Small has always been extremely graphic in her stories, and if you don't like highly detailed erotic scenes, stay away from this story.

Thus saying, the attention to detail, sights, smells, feelings, and tastes, that Ms. Small is known for in her earlier stories, are all here in The Love Slave. Regan is a no-nonsense woman who takes what could be an extremely bleak future, and molds it into something, if not desireable for everyone, then atleast sucessful. I found it much more realistic to see how her character progresses, even having to take the lovers she must in order to be more than just someone's whore in the white gold trade. Some might see her as prostituting herself (and thus be turned off), but Ms. Small tries very hard to disuade us of thinking of Regan in that light. It is the more practical I-will-do-whatever-I-have-to-to-survive light that is striving to surface here.

Regan and Karim are both interesting characters to get to know, and to empathise with, as the story unfolds. By the end of the story, the plot seems to turn a little too pat with first the one, and then the other needing each other to pull them out of a depression, but we can work around that. In a time when you can't simply buck the system or win all the time, this story might pull at our democratic ideals of the freedom to chose to live our lives as we see fit, but it makes it all that more realistic in my eyes. I enjoyed this story, but as I warned above, stay clear if you don't like VERY graphic sex.

Summary: One of my all time faves!!!
Review: This book is to die for!!! I loved it! could not put it down, read it in a day. I had purchased it about 6 months ago and it had been sitting on my book shelf until I had this all of a sudden overwhelming urge to read a bertrice. Let me tell you what....this is one hot, exciting book. I was so engrossed in it that I did not want it to end. I almost turned right back to the first page after finishing it. Even though totally different, Zaynab has become one of my favorite heroines. I bawled while reading this book and will never forget how I loved it and how I felt while reading it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A "must have" B. Small book
Review: Apart from the O'Malley series, this is one of Bertrice Small's better works. This books does not only tell about love and loyalty, but also accepting one's fate and chosing happiness in life. The plot was intriguing and exciting. This is one book that any fan of Ms Small's work should have for keeps and read, and re-read.

Summary: Vintage Small !
Review: This book was superior. It kept me entranced to the very last page! The story was very orginal and in detailed for the time period. Wish Ms . Small would write more of the same...

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Highly recommended
Review: This is one of Bertice's best. It has all the makings of a true love story, with all the steamy sex scenes. I couldn't put it down until I finished the whole book!
