Summary: From the Ashes
Review: I thought the book was wonderful. As a resident of Michigan, (lower Michigan) the story line and the characters more real to me. Also knowing some of the history of African-American's in the U.P. everything came to life. And I especially, liked that the female character did not shop at the 5,7,9 clothing stores. She was a real woman, I can relate to that too. Can't wait to see what Jeanne Sumerix comes up with next.

Summary: Sketchy...and very disappointing
Review: I was disappointed with this book. The book starts out with promise but then all the relatioships with in it are forced. I could not bring myself to naturally believe that Mara and Paige were best friends...I was not feeling their connection. I was supposed to believe that they were as close as sisters because Mara has a weird dream that she ignores anyway? Then there is the 'strained' relationship between Jack Devlin and Linc, a relationship that at the end leaves you shaking your head in disbelief due to the writers' lazy fix to what could have been a more interesting and complex relationship. As if that is not enough there is the supposed hate that Linc's mother feels for paige. The woman never voices such a thing and even her actions do not point to hate, she barely sees Paige enough to really show that strong an emotion. The writers could have done a lot more than they tried to do to convince readers of the underlying feelings she feels towards paige. As if these choppy sideline relationships were not bad enough the romance itself moved so fast I was left wondering when all this happened. in fact i went back to reread the chapters to try and figure out when exactly Paige and linc got close much less fell in love! I felt as if the writers forgot to put in a huge chunk of this book. At best it would be a below average mystery book, what with everyone eventually scrambling to find out who the arsonist is. The Ms. Suzanne and Ms. Sumerix might have had a better book if they had concentrated on the one relatioship that really mattered instead of diluting it by trying to add in too many characters that they never develop anyway.

Summary: A Suspenseful Page-Turner
Review: Interracial romances/marriages are a fact of life in our world. Sadly, the romance genre has been rather slow at playing catch-up with modern times.

I enjoyed 'From the Ashes'. First, the lead character, Paige, is a refreshing treat from the typical size six romance heroine. She's a character that many women could relate to, considering the average woman in America wears a size 12 to 14. I especially liked the way the authors described Paige's body type, both playful and affirming. I loved the fact that Paige was a model. I'd like to see more romance authors be as bold.

The fact that there was a conflict of cultures--namely that of Linc's and of Paige's, was eye-opening to say the least. And the conflict wasn't sugar-coated.

I am extremely thankful that at least ONE romance publishing company has the guts and the savvy foresight to take romance to the next level. I'm also looking forward to more books by these two writers.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: The story line is very weak and the romance between the lead characters was unrealistic. If you have nothing else to do, it's okay but-- I wouldn't buy it. Get it from the library.

Summary: From The Ashes
Review: This book did not have enough depth to it. I enjoyed the characters, however the writers did not put enough romance in the novel. This book should have been catagorized as a mystery, rather than a love story. Maybe they should use this couple again, with more romance involved.Make a sequal.

Summary: Hoped for better
Review: This book had definit possibilities. However, the authors moved the story along a little to fast. Because of the fast pace of the story the characters lacked real depth. Even the secondary characters got together to fast, You really didn't see much of their relationship, and all of the sudden their married. Although I do happen to like a story that moves along, I think they should have concentrated more on Paige's and Linc's relationship. Instead of using the destiny thing the should have let it develop more naturally. I wouldn't mind trying these authors again.
