Rating: Summary: I expect it to be sensational Review: All of the other books I've read by Ms. Alers have been sensational. I haven't read this one yet, but I expect it to be UP THERE with the others. I disagree with the story-bashing by certain others. As for the review from the model on the book's cover...you got a paycheck didn't you...Please show some class...you never know if or when you'll need Mrs. Alers. Love your books Ms. Alers!

Rating: Summary: Bad writing and a laughable plot equals a disastrous book Review: I have rarely read a book I disliked more than Gentle Yearnings. Not only was the writing trite and overdone, the plot was just plain silly. As soon as Rebecca discovered herself pregnant, I knew immediately what the twist was. And who would believe that it wouldn't occur to Daniel or Rebecca? No one! Further, I thought it was unnecessary to villify Michael. It was all right that Daniel and Rebecca turned to each other in their need to grieve and share. And it would have been believable and acceptable that they had never gotten past their love, even during all her years of marriage to Michael, except that one does believe very quickly that it was nothing but lust that pulled the two of them together. This book is an absolute failure from page one to the end. I think this is a poor example of Black fiction, and hope the publisher will rethink putting out books that depict this culture in such a shabby light.
Rating: Summary: A First Class Book From A First Class Writer Review: Ms. Alers has written a love story that stood through the test of time and like fine wine it just got better and more valuable. An agapy love is what this story is about. It is sensual and moving. I think Ms. Alers get better with each story she tells, and at her caliber I did not think that that was possible. Now let's talk about the cover of the book. The female model looked the part of the character that Ms. Alers painted for the readers through her description of Rebecca, yet the male model was no where near the portrait of Daniel that the author describes. However, the female model makes up for that short coming and the story itself is just too explosive to be held back by a mere photo. I read the male model's review of this book and frankly I disagree with his comment. The book is the complete opposite of his description "horrible". It's more like exceptional, fabulous, first-rate, splendid, and even breathtaking. I personally was overwhelmed with the compassion the characters had for one another. I couldn't put the book down until I had completed it. It's all that and a bag of chips, dip, cherries, and a diet coke. Need I say more? This critic gives this book a full circle, two thumbs up and a high five with five out of five stars.

Rating: Summary: A daring attempt entry into the trash genre Review: This book was horrible, and I mean that word in its most positive sense. Poor prose and crass characters. And I should know: I'm the male model on the cover.
Rating: Summary: Great Love Story Review: This is a great book about two people who have loved each other for years, some of those years they were apart and this book deals with loss and rekindling a love too strong to deny.
Rating: Summary: Gentle Yearning Review: Well once again here's another AA Romance, where the female character is just beyond gorgeous, continues to grow even more gorgeous as her pregnancy evolves and because of an early childhood trauma can't stand to be alone. The leading male character is larger than life because he's so damn perfect, takes a vow to protect her no matter what. Give me a break! I found the story to be weak and the characters to be totally unbelievable and annoying. Rebecca, is supposed to be the wife of a decorated NYC Narcotics Detective and she's written as whiney, clingy, silly and incapable of handling any serious situation that she's confronted with unless Daniel tells her what to do, case in point when Internal Affairs tries to pay her a visit to discuss the possibility of her recently killed husband (murdered in the line of duty) of being a dirty cop, she refuses to open the door to let them in. PLEEEZE!!! I'm sure Ms. Alers' intent was to have all of us female readers longing for a Daniel Clinton of our own but, he just got on my nerves, he was over-bearing, over protective and dim-witted. Who couldn't figure out Rebecca's baby was his. Rebecca obviously couldn't figure it out either. May I have just a little bit of realism. Although, I suffered through it, I ended up throwing this book on the floor a few times. I even relayed the story to a friend of mine and she thought I was kidding. This is definitely not one to read! Sorry Rochelle
