Summary: Fun, sexy book
Review: Just finished reading Rules of Engagement. I am a huge romance fan and I stayed up all night to finish this book which to me is a sign that it is a wonderful book. The hero, Magnus is very sexy (I love Scotsmen/quilts!) and the heroine is an independent lady whose tries very hard to follow her pre-arranged plans with little success. They have great chemistry and her funny aunts only added to the flavor of the book. There are times when this author reminds me of bestselling authors Cathy Maxwell and Julia Quinn. If you like these authors and others, you'll love this book. Happy reading!

Summary: GREAT Debut Book: funny, romantic, and a pure delight!
Review: Kathryn Caskie is a writer who has a long career as an author ahead of her if this book reflects even a fraction of her overall talent. Her characters sparkle with life, and I truly regretted leaving the aunts, Letitia and Viola, behind when the story ended. However, I am happy to hear they will be back for the second book. The main characters, Mangus (great name) and Eliza, are definitely headed in different directions at the beginning of this amusing tale, but Ms. Caskie's wit and sense of fun keeps the lovers and the readers guessing, though the aunts have no doubt at all that the lovers are meant for each other. Speaking of characters, Eliza's sister was a favorite of mine, and the interactions between the sisters tell me that she has a well-developed sister experience for they were amusing, real and especially wonderful. I urge anyone who wants a bit of fun to escape into this delightful Regency world Ms. Caskie has created. It is a marvelous book. It certainly made me laugh, but the romance and the depth and care she put into each of her characters made it a definite keeper and one of my favorite reads. Now I can't wait for Kathryn Caskie's next book.

Summary: A Fine Debut Novel. 4.5 Stars
Review: Kathryn Caskie writes this adorable book in the same style as a Julia Quinn or Sabrina Jeffries novel. This is fun, humorous -- an absolutely delightful book.

When two old meddling aunts mistake a military strategy manual entitled "Rules of Engagement," for a future bride's instruction book, the reading fun takes off. London's social scene becomes the battlefield in their madcap attempt to help their nieces obtain two husbands. In these pages, the reader will find no conflict between lovers, no anxiety filled words, they will find only playful amusement.

Miss Elizabeth Merriweather is a self-governing young woman. She has no need or want of a husband. She wants to study art in Italy, and study she will. Magnus MacKinnon, the Earl of Somerton, needs but does not want a wealthy bride. Up to the plate step the aunts, where they pull out the war manual and strategically begin to design their military love campaign. To avoid her aunts' meddling plans, Eliza talks Magnus into an arrangement. An arrangement that will see both of them achieve their individual dreams when the social season ends. Yes, in the end, they obtain dreams, but not solitary dreams.

This is fine writing, Kathryn Caskie has the ability to set up a scene! With fantastic skill, the author creates wonderful secondary characters; from the interfering aunts, to the worrisome sister, to the catty rival, Caskie delivers big-time.

Why not a perfect rating? Some elements seemed contemporary. Nevertheless, it is a splendid book. I understand there is more to come in the Featherton sisters' saga. Great! I definitely I will be checking out this future fun.

Summary: Lots of Fun!
Review: My book group just finished reading Rules of Engagement and though we don't usually read romances, we all just loved this one.

The heroine, who is an artist, is so much like me it was eerie. I always knew just how she would react! The aunts were my favorite of all. They were always putting Eliza and Magnus in one funny situation after another forcing them to realize their feelings for each other.

I really had a great time with this book and I think you will too.

Summary: Romping in the Regency
Review: Rules of Engagement reminds me of everything I love about a dandy regency romp.

The Heroine is an Original to be sure, and has no desire to be leg shackled to some high titled lord in his dotage just to satisfy the conventions of society. Her spinster aunts, however, have other plans, based mainly on the book left to them by their dear father: That book being the rules of engagement. And that high titled lord in his dotage? He's as rich as Croseus, a veritable Corinthian, and though he's got a wit as sharp as Brummel's, he's at sixes and sevens when it comes to dealing with our heroine.

Our lord, while a bit on the go, samples the heroine's charms, and from then on, they are both done for. Still you wonder, will that attraction be enough to convince our Heroine to abandon her dreams of art and painting in Venice?

The writing is fast, the repartee enjoyable, the characters memorable, even the supporting cast. This is defiantly not a serious tale, thankfully! It will have you holding your sides with laughter, and racing through the book to find out what happens in the end. To all the characters! This is a fun time in Prinny's England.

Summary: Five stars PLUS
Review: There has been quite a buzz about this book - Rules of Engagement - and now I know why! In 2002 it won the creme de la creme in unpublished romance awards: the coveted Golden Heart. On top of that Romantic Times BOOKclub magazine gave it 4 and a half stars/Top Pick this month. It's been a long wait to get to read this gem and I devoured it upon arrival like any true romance lover. Here's what made me love it: It has a refreshingly original plot that stands apart from the same old tired stories I've seen all too often. In this book two batty old aunts find a military strategy text, "Rules of Engagement," and mistake it for a guide to getting engaged. With a lovely, yet fairly unwilling, niece tucked firmly under their wings, they set out on their mission with often times hilarious consequences. All the characters are wonderfully drawn with believable conflict and exciting plot twists.
I could not put this book down. Furthermore, the chapter teaser for this author's next book (at the end of this book)has me hooked. I've already pre-ordered it!

Summary: Very cute book!
Review: What a clever plot! I really enjoyed this book. I got it because it was a recommendation on an Amazon page, and I found it funny and sweet. I enjoy any character who's an artist, like Eliza. And give me a brogue any day... :) I think Kathryn Caskie can follow in the footsteps of Julia Quinn.

Summary: A fun romantic read...
Review: While I am not much of a romance reader, I picked up Kathryn Caskie's Rules of Engagement and was tickled and engaged in the plot between Eliza, the down to earth (odd duck, by some estimations) heroine who does not think marriage is her cup of tea and an unusual man to her community. This kind of thinking is in the 1800s, when readers of Jane Austin knew what the inevitable was for young women of that day; get married or else. When Eliza meets handsome Magnus MacKinnon, there is a dilemma for Eliza: a life alone painting in Italy or a "desperate housewife" kind of life with Magnus. For all of us who vowed we would not have the life our mother's had, this is the book for us. Caskie's descriptions of intimate moments of the main characters far surpasses many things I have read by "superstar" romance novelists. I do not consider myself a reader of romance novels, but I will definitely be reading the prose of Kathryn Kaskie and look forward to her upcoming book, Lady in Waiting.
