Rating: Summary: Best ever! Review: All I can say is that I've read all of her books and this was the best one of them all. I've read the book over four times and will read it again. I couldn't put the book down.
Rating: Summary: Love this Book! Review: Another great Virginia Henley book. Historical period romances are a great way to forget our present day worries. I've read many of V.H.'s novels and this one, among several of her others, will stay on my permanent book shelf to be read again much later. The romance between Sean and Emerald unfolds for the wrong reasons, but of course continues for the right ones. A must read! Great story.
Rating: Summary: Intrigue and passion.... Review: As many of Virginia Henley's historical romances the setting is vividly described and the unexpected turn of events will compel the reader to turn each page. Emerald, the main character seems like a good friend as we follow her through the story, where she finds true love and then loses sight of it for many years. Henley's storytelling quality at it's finest.
Rating: Summary: Not your typical Virginia Henley historical romance!! Review: Disappointed! Dismayed! Letdown and possibly downright mad that I spent 25 cents for this book. Well, I'm not really mad over the cost, but thoroughly disappointed in the lack of historical references, the lack of passion by the characters and the lack of willpower, strength, tenacity found in the majority of Henley's heroines. This heroine was a dishrag, much like her mother. And yes, I understand that woman had few choices and little if any power or control over their lives, however, this particular heroine was too typical of an average woman in that situation; when I read, I don't want average! A historical romance novel is supposed to educate or enlighten you on historical references or occurrences during that particular time in history and the romance occurs usually while the two are at 'each other's throats' and battling wills (as Henley's characters are known to do). Not so in 'Dream Lover'. I cannot say that I disliked the characters, however, I never felt sympathy, joy, or anger when the characters supposedly felt that way. I didn't particular care about the outcome of the relationship or the ending of the novel. I don't consider this Henley novel a 'historical romance', romance maybe, but definitely not historical and definitely not typical of Henley!!
Rating: Summary: Dream Lover Review: For Virginia Henley, these love scenes are a little tame. However, those same scenes may be too descriptive or unconventional for readers who aren't used to her style. I like the way the love story started. I think they both must have fallen in love at first sight. My main wish is that Sean had kidnapped Emerald before her wedding. I know her marriage was an unhappy one that had nothing to do with love, but this book would have been just as good without the adultery aspect. The characters were likeable. Though some very sad events occur, it's a very good book.
Rating: Summary: Hopeless romantic in NH Review: I loved this book. I read the second half in one sitting. I could have killed Sean O'Toole myself at one point (I won't ruin it for you, the hero is also quite a villian in this one)! This is my third V. Henley book. For people who say the characters are unrealistic, isn't that the point? If I want to read about ordinary men, I'll pick up Time magazine!
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully written! Review: I loved this story of revenge and romance. I am a big Henley fan, and this was very entertaining. Of course I love all her books, but this one has to be the one that is written with the most passion between the characters. Don't hesitate to read, it won't disapoint, none of her books ever do!
Rating: Summary: Dreams do come true! Review: I really could not find fault with this Henley book. In my opinion it was a great story full of life's little and large potholes. Nothing is perfect and I guess that is why I am drawn to Henley as an author. She is not afraid to show the darker side of human emotion.Sean and Emerald are drawn to each other from the very start. Emerald sees Sean as her Irish Prince. Sean sees her as all things wild and beautiful. But their future will be turbulant and there will be horrors that neither will be able to imagine as well as lose. But in the end there is a happy ending. Set during a turbulent time in history when it was "bad" to be Irish and foolish to admit that you were is a perfect back drop for this romance. Evil things happened to good people and Henley is not afraid to write about history as it happen. Sean and Emerald's story is a perfect example of how our individual experiences shape who we become. Please don't be put off by the first couple of reviews. As far as steamy sex scenes go I feel that those in this book are rather tame compared to other Henley novels. Keep an open mind. The characters are likeable and there is laughter and tears in this novel. Yes, Henley shows a dark side of history that still has reprecutions even today. Despite what happens to these two people they still retain the ability to forgive, trust, and love. Some of the most important things in the world.

Rating: Summary: A little dark. Review: I remember liking Virginia Henley's books, but I don't remember them being so dark. The main character was bent on revenge throughout most of the book and it was a little depressing. I can understand his reasons but it just wasn't fun to watch (read about ) him manipulate a young woman who had nothing to do with his unfortunate circumstances. Thank goodness it was a happy ending, but it wasn't always a fun ride.
