Rating: Summary: a little too much!! Review: I am a big Sandra Hill fan. I have read all of this author's previous novels. She has interesting plots, lots of twists and turns, memorable characters, and a GREAT sense of humour. With that said, I found the latest installment of the viking series to fall short of the quality that we have seen in previous stories. What could have been an interesting plot...a fierce warrior forever physically branded by a witches spell....falls flat on it's face shortly after the first chapter. It is as though Ms. Hill either ran out of plot and action ideas or she was rushing through the manuscript to meet a deadline. The action never really progressed and, to me, the story stalled. Rurik, the likeable hero, appeared stiff and superficial. I had a hard time reconciling his early childhood years (of poverty and negligence) to the adult warrior who was singularily obsessed with finding the witch that had placed the "blue lightning strike" on his face..seemed a bit superficial. Additionally,it seems his entire life was an endless (and tiring)series of taunts and ridicule from friends and foe alike. The heroine, Maire, had an affair with Rurik years past and upon abandoning her she cast a spell that resulted in the infamous and hated blue facial mark. Maire has an unruly, undisciplined child...about five years old.... that is really not at all likeable. At this point.. you can probably guess the main conflict that hero and heroine have to resolve... everything very predictable. Supporting characters were muddled.. except for Balthor the poet... who was the only interesting character in the whole book. Ms. Hill's humour which is usually more sophisticated was juvenile and, at times, downright silly. Overall, the book was a big disappointment. I was tempted to put the book down several times;however, out of respect to the author and her previous novels, I perservered. Do not rate Ms. Hill on this book alone. Read the other books...Truly, madly viking, the last viking, and the love potion. There you will see her talent of interesting plots, complex character development, and outrageous humour.
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Sandra Hill Book Review: I have re-read this book at least five times and I still laugh out loud.
Rating: Summary: ACTUALLY A 10* Review: I have read all of Sandra Hill's Viking books, loved them all. The "Blue Viking" is far and away the best. It is funny, witty, charming, sexy and just plain delightful! What a great story and characters. Bolthor's sagas about Rurik and Maire (and other things) are LOL. I was sorry to see the book end, yet read it at the speed of light. Please write some more, Ms. Hill. You are a wonderful author.

Rating: Summary: Best read in a long time Review: I haven't really liked characters in a book in quite a while. Rurik is charming even when being a lout and he's really hard not to like. Maire reminds me of my aunts who roll their eyes at the goofy antics of my uncles, although they are being a bit annoying they are hard not to love. It's a wonderful light hearted charming story. Great read!

Rating: Summary: Silly Silly Silly Review: I love humorous and witty novels, but this one was just too silly and contrived for my taste. I made it about 3/4 of the way through, but when a swarm of a hundred flying witches (on broom sticks no less) descended on the castle I just gave up and closed the book.
Rating: Summary: She is the best Review: Once again Sandra has written another hillarious story in the Viking sagas. As always I buy her books without having to read what others think of it first. Sandra is the best. I cannot read any of her books without bursting out laughing or getting very hot under the collar with her love scenes. Rurik is every womans dream lover. I can't wait for the next in the series. please make it Adam's story. Thank you Sandra for another brilliant story and keep them coming.
Rating: Summary: Sexual Content: Rated R Review: The Blue Viking tells us the story of Rurik (from The Bewitched Viking) and is one of Sandra Hill's best releases to date. Although this book can be read without having read its predecessors, here's how the order goes for anyone interested: The Reluctant Viking (time travel), The Outlaw Viking (time travel), The Tarnished Lady (historical), The Bewitched Viking (historical), and The Blue Viking (historical). Rurik the Vain has been scouring the countryside for a Scottish witch named Maire that he seduced and abandoned five years past. The witch wreaked her vengance well, for after Rurik took her virginity and left her she marked him with a permanent jagged blue line that runs down the center of his otherwise perfectly handsome face. Determined to remove the blue mark at all costs so that he can wed with a high born Viking woman he is betrothed to, Rurik sets off for Scotland to find the witch. Maire Campbell has many problems, the most fundamental one being that Duncan MacNab is determined to lay claim to her lands now that all of her brothers are dead and her five-year-old son Jamie is too young to provide leadership to the clan. When Rurik releases her from a MacNab prison and agrees to help her people flush out the MacNabs, she is grateful to him, but isn't certain she can remove the blue mark in exchange for his services because of her other problem...Maire might be a witch, bit she's the most inept witch ever to practice the witchly arts. Rurik might have come to the Highlands in order to have the blue mark removed, but once he sets his sights back on Maire the jagged line down the center of his face begins to wane in importance. Remembering his betrothal, he will try to resist the lure of falling in love with the world's worst witch, but he can hold out for only so long... Sandra Hill just gets better and better with each successive novel. This is an incredibly entertaining book and definitely one for the keeper shelf. The Blue Viking is fast paced, humorous, and crackling with sensual sizzle. This is a definite must-buy!
