Rating: Summary: Classic romance Review: Karen Robards is one of the best writers of historical romance on the market. I am also an avid reader of romance novels and I look forward to the next book in this series. Scandalous was one of my all-time favorite books and this one would certainly place high on that list.
Rating: Summary: Good story line... but Review: The setting is in England around 1813. Claire Lynes is mistaken for the female spy, Sophie Towbridge, and is hunted down by kidnappers but captured by Colonel Hugh Battancourt. Her only mistake was being at the wrong place at the wrong time. It takes a while to convince Hugh that she is Claire not Sophie. Sparks start up between Hugh and Claire when they travel by ship in close quarters. Claire is in an unhappy/loveless marriage with David but doesn't realize that until Hugh shows her what real love really is. So what about Sophie Towbridge, why are they out looking for her and how why is Hugh risking his life to capture Sophie? It Claire going to stay with David or will she leave him for Hugh? It's a love triangle. Read it and see what you think. I do feel that this had a good story line but there were times there seemed to be no deepth- something missing. I, too, am one of those that finish a book every couple of days and just feel that there are better ones out there- though I won't say don't read this one. And KR fans may enjoy this one tremendously, but I again say that there are better ones out there.
Rating: Summary: Romance is Back !! -- this book is romantic and very sexy! Review: The wait is over -- Karen Robards is back. This book is pure romance-- very reminiscent of Robards early historical romance novels! (it's not a contemporary murder thriller like all the previously great romance authors-- ie. Robards, Catherine Coulter, Linda Howard, Sandra Brown-- are now churning out by the dozens-- it's a ROMANCE-- yeah!!) There's romance in this book, lots of suspense, tons of sexual tension, a beautiful heroine, and a hero to die for-- in short, everything a romance reader looks for in a romantic novel. This book is intense and satisfying, and is the kind of book by a great romance author that romance fans have been yearning for and not getting in recent years.
Rating: Summary: Really bad Review: This book was much to long in the narrative. There was virtually no dialogue and I didn't read the prior book, but I never felt any of Claires pain from her past. There were moments of hope and I think the plot was good, but it was written with no excitement or feeling. If I read about "Intimate Congress" one more time, I was going to rip the pages out. She used that line at least 6 times. I would not recomment this book.
Rating: Summary: Average Review: Well, what can I say about this book? To me it seemed just like every other romance novel I've read lately. Hard to believe this is the same author who wrote Dark of the Moon and This Side of Heaven, two of my all time favorites. The plot was predictable and the characters have been done before, many, many times. And is it me, or did this book have way too much in common with Tiger eyes (I think that was the name of it) another of her books? Maybe I'm just burned out on the genre, but I really expected more from Karen Robards.
Rating: Summary: I Don't Agree Review: While author Karen Robards has successfully ventured back and forth from the sub genres of historical romance and romantic suspense, her primary strength still lies in historical romance. Continuing in the saga of the Banning sisters, Ms. Robards explores the life of middle sister, Lady Claire Banning Lynes. It is 1813 England, near Clair's home, Hayleigh Castle, when she finds herself hunted by would-be kidnappers and clinging to the side of a cliff overlooking the ocean. But her descent to the beach is fraught with disaster, as she is mistaken for a spy and captured by Colonel Hugh Battancourt. At first reluctant to believe that Clair is not the sought after Sophie Towbridge, changed circumstances force him to reevaluate his opinion. Rarely do historical romance authors introduce heroines who fall in love with someone else while still entered into an unhappy marriage. Ms. Robards has deftly handled this matter, rendering Claire a believable character, as a young woman who tries her best to resist Hugh's charms, though her marriage to David is a loveless one. But Claire's resistance begins to wear thin as she is forced to share Hugh's cabin as they make the Channel crossing to France. While romantic tension mounts as quickly in their swaying cabin, the tension of a war torn country is all too apparent when the ship reaches French shores. Sensual love scenes, undercurrents of espionage, and the hope for another installment in this series, will leave the reader searching for future and past releases by this powerful writer of historical romance.
