Rating: Summary: Favorite book of all time! Review: In the 15 years as an avid reader, I have read over a thousand romance books, and will without hesitation say that this is definitely the best book I have ever read. This book never fails to lift me up when I'm down and out. So, after reading some of the poor reviews, I felt compelled to defend it. Some of the reviews complain of the hero's cruelty. I would say said readers may have misunderstood the character of Sheridan. One should keep in mind that this story is set in 1880s, where Irish are still an outcast despite their wealth. So Sheridan, being an Irish and considering the limp in his leg, would naturally feel unworthy to have a woman like Alana. He tried pushing Alana away because he feels that Alana should have somebody better than him. That in itself is quite endearing and romantic. Also, feeling unworthy, he usually holds back, and is suspicious of Alana's declarations of love. But, never in the book did I feel any hatred from Sheridan towards Alana. In the middle of the book, we can see that Sheridan already love Alana, but only declared his love for her at the end of the book, after coming to terms with himself. In the sequel, Fair is the Rose, you can witness the kind of love that Sheridan is capable of -- he just has to conquer his insecurities in the first book. This will be the book that I will read and re-read over and over again. Thank you Ms. McKinney for writing this book!
Rating: Summary: Moved Me Like No Other! Review: Like the title suggests, this book by the talented Meagan McKinney is about two opposites, one dark and powerful, the other innocent and condemned by appearance, yet the two share a common ground, a deep dark past; one that she cannot divulge, and one that he can never forget. Lions and Lace has succeeded as being the one and only novel (as of yet) to move me to the very core of my being, (and I've read this over 2 years ago). I've found myself getting chills each and everytime I re-read the novel (I've read it at least a dozen times). It is THAT good! Recommended w/ my highest regards. Meagan McKinney has the talent to make you laugh and cry like no other. Get this book and you'll have no regrets. Don't get this book and you'll be missing out on the romance of a lifetime!
Rating: Summary: Breathtaking - a journey into a new world. Review: Lions and Lace is a book to read over and over - I myself have read it three times, and do plan on reading it again! It speaks of a tough, independent woman - Alana Van Alen - thrown up against the devil of all devils, Trevor Sheridan. I laughed, cried, and squealed with delight while reading this masterpiece. Meagan McKinney has done it again!
Rating: Summary: AMAZING! Review: Lions and Lace is an amazing romance novel. From start to finish Meagan McKinney writes and conveys such strong feelings of innocense, betrayal, love, confusion and lust... and not necessarily in that order. The hero, Trevor Sheridan is a brooding, dark and unforgiving character. But behind this facade, he is just looking for love and acceptance. When he meets the New York socialite Alana Van Alen, it's not only a case of convenient revenge on the Knickerbockers of the NY elite but also a struggle against the magnetic attraction. It is through their hurt and mutual pain that you grow the know these characters and even hope that they overcome the obstacles and recognize the love between them. It's an emotional roller coaster.. Highly recommend. If you're looking for a light hearted sweet romance... this isn't the book for you. But if you want a book to touch your soul... this is it. Julianne
Rating: Summary: Best of Meagan McKinney Review: There was some one on this board who said that this book as a romance was a flop. Well you are so wrong. What makes this one of the best romance novels I have ever read is that it doesn't fallow the normal speach patterns and the the characters aren't pristine and perfect. What makes Sheridan such a great hero is because of his cruelty. You say that he has no redeeming characteristics and I tell you to go back and read from chapter 27 till the end of the book and you will see all of his greatest aspects. He's not this great guy that every one likes despite all of his faults. He is a complex and layered character. I feel that who ever you are you do not know how to filter books and to peel away the multiple layers, instead you are like a sponge and only taking things at surface value. Further more, Miss Alana is a great heroine. She is not a perfect peach of a woman nor is she completely faulty. She is a refreshing refrain from all of those Misses who sigh " Oh, I love you so!" nor does she love everyone despite how mean and evil or not that they are.
Rating: Summary: I can read it over and over! Review: This is a book I read several years ago and usually re-read once or twice a year. It is romance at its best. I found Trevor to be the hero most romance authors should try to emulate. He is smart, powerful, sexy, but he is also caring and vulnerable. He is adorable! Alana is a heroine you can really root for. You really hope that she gets her man and he can help her put her life in order. The secondary characters are excellent, expecially Mara. This book really is an excellent example of romance writing at its best.
Rating: Summary: Do you have more stars? Review: This is my absolute all-time favorite romance. I read it once a year and have recommended it to others. The characters are all terrific and the writing is excellent. I liked the scenes in Newport because that is a favorite spot of mine. It is not used in romances very often. {At least not this well, anyway}. Trevor is not your typical hero. He doesn't talk about his love, but you know he will do anything to take care of those he loves. Lions and Lace, along with A Rose in Winter and Man of my Dreams are the three books I read and reread. They are the examples of their respective author's best romances.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT Review: This was my favourite of McKinney's novels. I truly loved it and it is so witty. I've re-read and re-read it so many times. It's definitely an all time favourite and I would like to recommend other novels such as No Choice But Surrender and Till Dawn Tames The Night. It's a MUST read!
Rating: Summary: Sheltered Alana meets ruthless Irishman Trevor Sheridan Review: Watch the sparks fly as you root for the underdog. Alana is a well brought up society girl with a terrible secret. Sheridan is a ruthless man determined to have his family recognised by society. Trevor traps Alana in a plot to help him, and the sparks fly as these two lovers battle pregidous of family and friends. Super book. Fell in live with these characters. It's a book to read over and over.
