Rating: Summary: Not her best, but not her worst, either... Review: Twenty-nine year-old Lincoln Ross Burnett has decided he needs to exorcise old ghosts before he can search for a wife and start a family. Thus, Lincoln sets out for his beloved Scotland after a nineteen year absence in England living with his uncle and becoming his heir. What Lincoln doesn't expect is an instant attraction to Melissa MacGregor -- the niece of his sixteen adversaries, all brothers, from his troubled childhood. Melissa MacGregor is going to London to find a husband. Although she hates the thought of leaving Scotland, Melissa has no choice because her overprotective uncles -- all sixteen of her mother's brothers -- have discouraged every suitor who has ever paid her any kind of attention. Shortly before Melissa is to leave Scotland, she meets a man who immediately engages her heart. Lincoln Burnett appears to be just as enamored of Melissa, raising her hopes that the husband hunt will be short-lived. And so the adventure, or more aptly, the pursuit, begins. THE PURSUIT is a sequel to LOVE ME FOREVER: Melissa MacGregor is the daughter of Lachlan and Kimberly MacGregor. It was fun to revisit those characters and see how Lachlan deals with the problems of fatherhood. Problems of which there are many, when Kimberly's brothers refuse to relinquish their overprotectiveness towards Melissa. The uncles, six of whom are named Ian -- which got confusing -- remember Lincoln as a crazed ten-year-old always trying to fight his way through them. They fear his madness has carried over into adulthood and have no intention of letting him become involved with Melissa. The first half of THE PURSUIT is filled with backstory and much narration as opposed to quick action; showing, rather than telling. The middle picked up the pace, but the constant references to Lincoln being crazy, and the lengths that the uncles went to so that he and Melissa were constantly forced apart, got tiresome. The dialogue is classic Lindsey, containing her wit and sarcasm, and the dramatic and poignant ending came as a complete surprise.
Rating: Summary: So Disappointing Review: I usually love her books - the heroines, stories, the feelings, etc. There was nothing I liked about this one... No emotional pull for the couple, no desire to see them together - only the last page. Would not recommend.
Rating: Summary: haven't read it yet, scared to read it too Review: Nope, that's right, haven't read it. To be fair, I give it 3 stars, right in the middle. I love Ms. Lindsey's book. I have all of them. But, the reviews tell me, it not going to be on par. So, I will wait for the mass paperback issue. I've been a fan since A Pirate's Love and went back to read Captive Bride. I used to pick up the 2 books every year. Then 1 book every year. Now,I guess that with infrequency of writing, the creative juices just have dried up. The last few books were very disappointing. But as a loyal fan, I will await the paperback issue to see how bad it can be. I hope that all the other reviews have been wrong and that this will be another Lindsey classic. But with the disappointment of the last few, I won't hold my breath.
Rating: Summary: Hinesite is Better Than Forsight Review: Mistakes in judgment and in communication between specific people cause lots of heartache and physical pain to result. Two people want to get married because they love each other with all their hearts. Family gets in the way and trys to stop the marriage all a a result of many misunderstandings. If the characters had only been honest with each other, pain and suffering could have been avoided. As with the story in this book,I also made a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes but, hopefully, we learn from them. I wish I had read the critics on this book before I wasted my time reading it. I kept thinking the book would get better until half way through the book. I then realized it wasn't going to change but I had too much invested in the book not to finish it.
Rating: Summary: Just Can't Seem to Pick This Back Up Review: I have read every Joanna Lindsey book and have loved almost all of them. I have tried numerous times to finish this book and I just can't get interested in it. It goes nowhere and there is no romance, no chemistry, no classic Lindsey. I have bought the last few Lindsey novels in hard cover form and I have to say the last three were a disappointment and not worth the cost of hard cover. I will wait for the next book to come out in paperback. Don't waste a penny on this one-wait for the used book sales. I tried, truly to force myself to finish this one, but there are so many other good books and so little time, that I think I will read the last chapter and move on.
Rating: Summary: dull, predictable, forced myself to finish Review: Not Lindsey at her best. Not worth your time unless you are a die hard fan keeping up with characters from other books. And then I would recommend waiting for paperback or borrow one. If you have never read a Lindsey - find another one to read. As I said it was dull, predictable, and I really had to force myself to finish it.
Rating: Summary: Tedious and Implausible Review: It's always a bad sign when I start flipping pages foward in a book, looking for something to happen, and it didn't take very long into this book before tedium set in and I was looking ahead. Unfortunately, there wasn't much to find. It annoys me very much when period authors use 20th century concepts like drug reactions and psychobabble to motivate their characters. It simply doesn't ring true, and as a reader, I feel insulted that a writer expects me to suspend disbelief to so great a degree. Save your money on this one.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: There was a time when I could sit up all night reading a Johanna Lindsey novel. The attraction the characters felt for each other, the obstacles they had to overcome and the humor kept me hooked because I just had to know what happened next. In recent years, Ms. Lindsey's novels have not grabbed me the way the earlier ones had. They were okay. A quick read but not spectacular. I am disappointed to say that The Pursuit is the first one that I've wanted to put down and not finish. I really wouldn't call this a romance novel since most of the plot had to do with the hero's childhood feud with the heroine's 16 uncles. The hero and heroine hardly interact and there was no build-up of feelings between them to make it exciting. He comes across her at a lake and it is love at first sight. With that out of the way, the author was free to focus on the feud between Lincoln and Melissa's uncles which really isn't what I look for in a romance novel. I want to care about the characters and want to see them live happily ever after. Unfortunately this book didn't give me much incentive to read on.
Rating: Summary: "Less than awful" Review: This was better than the last few. But, since they've been awful - 'better' isn't saying much. Sadly, I'll just await the next Lindsey(?) novel at the Used Book Store.
Rating: Summary: Ehh it was okay Review: I was thrilled at the thought of reading more about The Macgregor's after Love Me forever I was expecting something with a little more of a kick than wht the Pursuit had Melissa had spirit there was no doubt about it but the author din't do a go job in explain why she was they way she was usually her books are about a couple fighting the love that they have for one another but in this one melissa's loved ones were causing the problems. Lincoln the hero seemed more like a boy that thought that the whole world had wronged him in the end he excepts he was acting childish toward the McFearsons and he lets things be. This was an Okay book if you have nothing else to read, I just hope that Johanna Lindsey gets outs of her writting sulmp and gives us something that can we can copare wth her other hits.
