Summary: A fun-filled western romp
Review: Donovan's Bed gets off to a most intriguing start when a big, gorgeous bed is rolled through the town of Burr. Sarah Calhoun, a reporter, sniffs a career making story in the works when the bed is rolled straight to bachelor Jack Donovan's ranch. Jack, you see, has been making lavish purchases for his home and has been throwing money around like it grows on trees and Sarah just knows he is up to some sort of sleazy business. But the irritating man will not give her an interview and has foiled all of her attempts to extract information from him.

Jack is amused by Sarah's persistence and only a little annoyed and decides to try a new "diversion" method by kissing her senseless and then abruptly pulling away when she starts to respond. He then insults her by explaining that he pulled away because although she'd be a great "roll in the hay" she would never make him a fine wife. She's far too hot-tempered and strong willed he goes on to say. Well, Sarah is incensed! Imagine the nerve of the arrogant jerk! She manages to reign in her temper and instead decides to get even by writing an article all about Burr's wealthiest bachelor Jack Donovan and his quest for a bride. After the article is printed woman are propositioning poor Jack at every turn. Being a red-blooded man he eats up the attention but soon tires of it when he realizes that sassy Sarah is the only woman for him. He then spends the rest of the book trying to win her love.

This is a such a great book. It has humor and a fun plot but its greatest strength is its characters. You won't find any stereotypical people here. Jack and Sarah are well developed characters who are likable right off the bat and the secondary characters are equally well rounded and entertaining (and they never take over the story!). Jack has a dark and dangerous past but doesn't walk around sulking about it. Instead he has a terrific sense of humor and a big heart. I _so_ loved Jack. Sarah also has darkness in her past but hasn't turned into a grumpy spinster because of it. She has a sensual and loving side that fits so well with Jack's personality. When these two get together it is very romantic and satisfying. Grab this one while you can because books this good are very hard to come by!

Summary: Be charmed by this one
Review: Donovan, after years of bounty hunting, is ready to settle down to the quiet life in a quiet town in Wyoming, building his dream house, furnishing it with the best, and looking for the perfect biddable wife, who is ready to dedicate her life to him. Unfortunately, he meets Sarah, the editor of the town paper, an independent business woman whose reputation is in taters by a mistake she made three years ago. After he insults her with a proposition to be his mistress, she decides to help him find his perfect wife by printing an article in her paper encourging the women to apply for the position of wife, with the focus being the beautiful bed he imported for his new wife. Now the fun begins. You laugh, sigh, cry and your heart aches as these two wonderful characters struggle to find their happiness. Ms. Mullins manages to give you a charming, funny, heartwarming read and when you least expect it, sneaks in and lays bare the souls of her characters. Donovan is the ultimate male-hard outside, soft inside, who will make any sacrifice to keep what is his. Don't miss this one. A wonderful read. Can't wait for the next one in August.

Summary: Spend the night in DONOVAN'S BED...
Review: Ex-bounty hunter Jack Donovan has settled in the small town of Burr, Wyoming Territory, and is looking for a wife. But not just any wife will do--he needs a homemaker, a woman who will bear his children and run his ranch and bake cookies. So when he meets sassy newspaper editor Sarah Calhoun, a woman to whom career seems to mean everything, he knows right away that despite the attraction between them, she's not the right woman for him...and he tells her so! Sarah is hurt by his rejection and assumes that Jack doesn't want her because of the scandal in her past, so she advertises his search for a wife in her newspaper. Soon Jack is besieged with marriage-minded females, but he just can't get a certain newspaper editor out of his mind... Read chapter one on my website.

Summary: This one just didn't do it for me.
Review: First off, I have a prejudice against reporter types in novels. They're a little too pushy and I tend not to like them.

I mean - what's the big deal? The man is furnishing his home, for cryin' out loud. Why is that newsworthy? The local paper doesn't cover me everytime I buy something at Wal Mart. Sheesh!

The West was a place folks in the East went to forget their pasts. Where you could re-invent yourself. I'd have been more suspicious if he wanted to do an interview.

And then the things she does say about Donavan? They're too much. She gets nasty and makes all kinds of allegations about what could go on in that big ol' bed. This seemed more "The Enquirer" than the respectable local paper.

Especially considering she has a past to "hide", too.

In the end, when he dons his bounty hunter clothes - I thought this was just too silly. Once he wore the clothes he became more dangerous. I understood that he was putting on a mask, a hard calculating mask to bring in a bad guy. But the way everyone in town flinched? That seemed silly to me. A little "too much".

The book does have it's good point, if you can get past the silly premise. There's lots of chemistry, lots of secrets, and lots of good dialogue.

But save your money and borrow this one from a friend or get it used.

Summary: FEEL GOOD BOOK
Review: Good book to read, and very romantic, always like to read the man's point of view specially in matters of the heart. A salute to Ms. Mullins

Summary: Done too many times before
Review: I loved Debra Mullins Once a Mistress but was dissapointed in this book. While the characters were quite likeable to be honest I couldn't get past the plot as it all seems to have been done before. Heroine has scandal in her past and has fought to be respectable ditto hero and both fight off their attraction to one another. Debra does have a great writing style and to be fair to her I could only read half of the book before I lost interest so perhaps the story did pick up.

Summary: Had Promise But Turned Into a Cliche
Review: This book had a lot of promise. First, the heroine was smart and sexually experienced. The hero admired her for her tenacity and intelligence but didn't consider her a suitable choice for a wife. I wish the author had focused more on that part of the book and developed around that. Instead we get a fabricated issue with the hero's past to try and build up tension. At this point the heroine's IQ drops and the book becomes like many other romances. Overall the book is readable and pleasant. I won't remember it or keep it though.
