Rating: Summary: Superb ghostly romance Review: On New Year's Eve, 1849, Eric Wolfe knows he is dying from the wounds delivered by Muldavey's thugs even as he staggers towards his beloved sea. Being a superstitious sailor, Eric fears that his soul will be lost forever if he fails to have the Last Rites performed on him. Eric, who has said the words so many times before when any of his own men was dying, struggles with the prayer before falling into the sea. In 1989 Connecticut, Miranda Burke mourns the loss of her father. Living with her aunt and uncle, she finds solace at sea. However, when she goes outdoors this time she sees a nineteenth century Yankee clipper just as those depicted in her father's texts. Even stranger, Miranda meets Eric, who has been a ghostly traveler for the past one-hundred forty years. In spite of their obvious differences, the pair begins to fall in love. However, if an evil spirit from Eric's mortal days has his way, Eric and Miranda will be doomed to a hell of eternal separation. The third novel in Alice Alfonsi's wonderful "Eternal" series is a hauntingly beautiful love story that will exhilarate fans of supernatural romance. The story line is fast-paced and action packed as Ms. Alfonsi effortlessly makes the unreal seem so real. The lead characters are wonderful and readers will want to go on a sea cruise with the valiant Eric. The ignoble villain is as loathsome a cretin to appear in print in some time. Sub-genre fans who enjoy a ghostly romantic tale need to peruse this novel and its two predecessors (ETERNAL LOVE and ETERNAL VOWS) for stupendous specter stories. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Bland and predictable..... Review: Alice Alfonsi's novel of ghostly romance failed to capture my interest, despite a rather interesting premise. Heroine Miranda Burke (20), heiress is a spoiled rich girl with too much time on her hands and a passion for sailing. Hero Eric Wolfe (30) is the ghost of a murdered captain doomed to sail the ocean rescuing drowning sailors and foundering ships. The writing in Eternal Sea was disjointed and bland. The heroine was silly and immature and in between quarrels with her aunt, must deal with the overtures of Josh, her cousin by marriage and a predictable subplot to steal her trust fund. I kept wondering why Miranda just didn't leave to go to California or head east instead moping around the house. Doesn't Miranda have a job? The romance between Miranda and Wolfe lacked credibility. Miranda's impulsive spoiled nature and lack of direction made me wonder what Wolfe sees in her. Wolfe is equally untrue to his character, easily swayed by Miranda to give up his career The most dissapointing thing about this novel was the unresolved plot threads. Too many subplots filled with sterotypical underdeveloped minor characters made me want to ask "who edited this junk anyow?" I would have liked to see more character development, a more mature heroine and less goofy "I'm so eeevvvvillll-" minor characters.
Rating: Summary: Eternal Sea Review: I highly recommend this book for people who believe that love is forever. I really like this author and have already started to buy all her romatic novels written. There is sadness, happiness, laughter and romance all in this story. I have already shared the book to my friends and as I said they love it.
Rating: Summary: IF YOU LIKE PARANORMAL - read THIS BOOK!!! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ms. Alfonsi's book, Eternal Sea. Eric and Miranda (a good allusion using Shakespeare's Tempest princess' name) work so well together, that by the end, you really want a traditionally happy ending for them. I rarely show any sort of emotion when reading, but I did get quite a few chuckles form this story. Our hero's last name is Wolfe, and Miranda's hooded sailing jacket, when they first encounter each other, is red. Ms. Alfonsi has a superb command of the sublime. I did feel at times that Miranda's character was a bit childish. Also, unfortunately, I felt that the book's ending rushed our hero and heroine too much. Miranda spent so long away from Eric, eventually not believing in him at all, and then in one night becomes a believer again? I think the plot would have been better served if their reunion took longer. It really didn't seem plausable to me. Eric, on the other hand, was a great charater, who struck a cord with me immediately. He was strong, yet not overly so...kind of blustering when angered, yet gentle too. That is usually a hard combination to pull of successfully, yet Ms. Alfonsi accomplishes it admirably. I did not however, care for the 'evil storyline' of this book. The secondary characters (with the exception of Wolfes' crew) were overblown, and completely unbelievable. They detracted from an otherwise lovely story. The story is sweet and simply written and I would have prefered to give this book a 3 1/2 star rating.
Rating: Summary: Enchanting, humorous, and romantic Review: I wasn't too sure about the book because of the cover. But after I started to read it, it was terrific. I couldn't put it down. The characters were believable and I especially love the hero, who was very strong but at the same time sensitive. I love the humor and the drama and the romance. You really hope that they will get together at the end of the story and you know that they will but it was great reading how Alfonsi put the story together. I very highly recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: Romance with excitement and mystery of ghosts and the sea Review: I'm not sure that the review posted under mine read the same book I did. I do agree with the other reviews listed here. The book made me laugh and cry. It was touching and one of the best books I've read. Eric Wolfe, the brave ghost captain, is a WONDERFUL hero! I'm still thinking about him weeks after reading the book! He was tough yet tender, a lovely portrait of a sailing man. You know what happens to every major character (and most of the minor ones) at the end of the book! I don't get the "loose ends" comment below. No , it wasn't a perfect book. I agree that the heroine was childish at first but I think by the end of the book she had learned and matured. It is a book that has romance, heartbreak, laughs and tension. I found the book absorbing and I was sorry to see it end. I recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: Bad secondary characters Review: This novel reads like a tribute to "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir." In fact, it makes me want to read that classic again -- but it doesn't live up to it. The lead characters were neat -- Eric was a ghost, but his personality was very solid. It was the secondary characters who spoiled this read. When you have characters named Josh Cunning and Leach Muldavey, you know you're in trouble. Most of the secondary characters are either thoroughly evil, or horribly selish, or all of the above. If they had been more believable, this book would've been a keeper. I gave this book a C at All About Romance.

Rating: Summary: If you believe... Review: This was a truly charming tale. When reading it I was struck by the very unusualness of the story. Never before have I read a romance novel that delt with the sea and the ships and ghosts consigned to serve her in their after life. Miranda, is only twenty years old and at times, says and does things that are rather childish, but maybe that's expected in a girl who has just left her teen years. Maybe its her youth, maybe its the tales of the sea that her father told her before his death, what ever it is, it alows her to see Eric when know one else has been able to. In reading this novel one can realize that all the wonders of the world and all its mysteries are just waiting for you, if you only you believe...
