Summary: Positively Sensual
Review: 1879 England and Lydia Westland, blonde haired, violet-eyed step-daughter to Grayson Rhodes was on her way to living her most fervent dream - well at least part of it anyway. She was riding in the most splendid crimson coach with a ducal crest on the door as if this were an everyday occurrence. In spite of the gravity of the summons to travel swiftly to the bedside of her step-fathers dying sire, she hoped to absorb as much of the glitter, pomp and circumstance of Britain as she could - hopefully she could even convince her parents to let her stay and accompany her cousin for the London `season' before returning to America. Armed with Miss Westland's Blunders in Behavior Corrected she carefully studied the different forms of address of the nobility she dreamed she would soon be meeting.

Though the welcome when they arrived was less than warm, Lydia could not but be impressed upon meeting the Marquess of Blackhurst, Rhys Rhoades. Though he projected the cool and imperturbable commanding stance of the upper class nobility, the beautiful young American more than stunned Rhys. Her innocence was palatable and though he desperately yearned to possess her he knew his sins would forever prevent him from having the thing he yearned for most - the love of this innocent young woman. He would do his best, while dying inside to see that she had her hearts desire of a season in London, even if it meant making a `pact with the devil' to ensure her success thus keeping her from him forever.

I must agree with the statement, `this author will steal your heart' and this particular story will cement that thought in your mind as you read Rhys and Lydia's powerful love story. Lydia's innocence, her strength and fortitude, and her blind faith in Rhys and in knowing her own heart would be instrumental to heal the pain and anguish that tormented Rhys. Expect the most beautiful imagery and prose, and oh yes, be prepared to shed some tears in this divine love story - sit back and enjoy! Positively sensual and oh so sweet!

Summary: The best romance I've read this year!
Review: At last!! A real, classic ROMANCE. I fell in love with the hero from the start! Ms. Heath has created a wonderful twist on the "tormented prostitute" storyline by creating a MAN forced to sell his body in order to survive himself and protect his friends. Hardened by harsh experience and denied the love and generosity that he has given to everyone but never known himself, Rhys can't believe it when he finds love and the innocence he himself has lost in Lydia, the love of his life. The storyline is fabulous and SEXY, SEXY, HOT! I couldn't put it down and stayed up all night to read it from cover to cover. This is going on the shelf with "Gone With the Wind" as a classic in my collection!

Summary: Last chance for Lorraine Heath
Review: I have to say that this is the last time I will ever consider purchasing one of her books. The story was lacking in quotation marks - meaning....THERE WAS NO DIALOGUE! All we did was hear about what this one thinks and what that one thinks and we were force fed the story from her 'Rogue in Texas' book. All of the characters from Rogue were unnecessarily brought onto these pages. I felt it would have been quite confusing to a reader who had not read Rogue. Had I not known that story, I would have shut the book and taken 2 aspirin from the confusion that ensued by this explanation. It makes you think that perhaps Ms. Heath has nothing up her sleeve anymore and needs to constantly draw from other story lines. I, for one, am sick of the Englishman in Texas story.

I truly thought I had found a great author in Ms. Heath after reading Texas Destiny. Unfortunately, everything written after Texas Destiny has appeared to me like she's just being forced to put out these books and they're selling based on the merit of her early work.
'Always to Remember' and 'Sweet Lullaby' are NOT to be missed. They are incredible stories with heart wrenching love scenes. How they were written by the same author as 'Love with a Scandalous Lord' is a mystery. Again, I think Ms. Heath is under the influence of her publishers. The book jacket is embarassing and the synopsis does not tell the true story written.

Summary: Delightful romance
Review: In 1879, his brother the Earl dies so that Rhys Rhodes the "spare becomes the heir". With his father also dying, Rhys' half-brother Grayson accompanied by his American wife and five children arrive from Fortune, Texas to pay their respects. One of Grayson's brood, his stepdaughter Lydia Westland, especially looks forward to the trip as she has studied how to deport oneself as a lady and has written a "book" "Blunders in Behavior Corrected" extracted from letters that her cousin mailed her.

Rhys and Lydia are immediately attracted to one another, but she is angry when his mother the duchess goes hysterical over her father staying at the estate as Grayson is living proof that her husband loved someone else. Lydia turns mortified when Rhys corrects her first blunder. As Rhys and Lydia become acquainted they fall in love but he believes that his scandalous past makes him undeserving of her (or anyone's for that matter) so she has her work cut out to persuade him otherwise.

Switching the locale and moving forward almost fifteen years refreshes the Anglo-American historical romances that have delighted readers. Besides a delightful "second" generation story line, the return of the lead characters from A ROGUE IN TEXAS add a feel of seeing how old friends that have not been seen for a while have done. LOVE WITH A SCANDALOUS LORD is an intriguing tale as Rhys is an interesting lead protagonist with many relationship problems. Lydia provides a bit of comic relief with her obsession over aristocratic behavior. Lorraine Heath scores again with a fine Victorian-Texas romance.

Summary: Didn't care for this at all
Review: Lorraine Heath has lost her talent in drawing a picture and making it come to life. I agree with another reviewer---go back to Texas--that's where you best work shines.

Summary: Didn't care for this at all
Review: Lorraine Heath is probably one of the finest western writers in the romance field. However, here I felt she was out of her element. Heath's strong suit is her ability to weave her novel's location into a story. Her readers can feel the heat, the dust, the harshness, and yet experience the beauty of Texas. Sadly, in this book, her genius was absent. I never wandered through the English countryside nor did I explore the city streets and alleys of London.

Her character description of Rhys Rhodes, the Duke of Blackhurst, was such that he came across as a full-scale cowboy. With Heath's character breakdown, I could picture this man slowly seducing our little spitfire, Lydia, on the LONELY western plains, but in the hallowed halls of his English mansion, the seduction never took shape.

Alas, not every romance book has to be set in jolly old England -- after all, the English didn't invent love. Please, Lorraine, come home to Texas, and let your writing pen roam.

Lorraine Heath is an excellent author and I do love her books. Check out "Texas Destiny" or "A Rogue in Texas", these are fine novels and are set in country Heath.
