Rating: Summary: Laird of The Wind is the best medieval romance for 98. Review: No question about it, Laird is the best Medieval of 98. Susan King weaves yet another wonderful tale of suspense and romance. As a lover and well-read individual of Medieval Romances, Ms. King's Laird is definitely a 'keeper' that I read and re-read with pleasure. The falconry in the book is excellent and while Ms. King goes into to deep detail it never once deters your attention from the main story plot and in fact, enhances it from every aspect. Both the hero and heroine are well drawn characters with whom you fall in love with. I never found the characters or the story to bog down the flow of the book; I eagerly turned every page while reading this book. Not only is the historical content (including the falconry training) accurate, it furthers the story of William Wallace in allowing those of us who are knowledgable about the legend of Wallace to feel some peace in regards to his death. A MUST READ for any Medieval Romance lover and a KEEPER for any well-read Medieval Romance reader and lover.
Rating: Summary: Heather Moon: Another Susan King masterpiece!! Review: Once again Susan King has written a captivating love story steeped in a sweeping era of Scottish history. As always, she has given her readers a wonderfully written novel with a beautiful storyline and absolutely engrossing characterization. Susan's medieval history background brings her stories to life in such a natural flow, that one never finds the history overshadowing the storytelling. Only those of a less erudite bent could dislike a Susan King novel.
Rating: Summary: Pure magic Review: Once again, Susan King uses the raw material of history to weave a compelling, powerful romance. I loved the characters, very much including James' flying friend. Besides being a wonderful read, Laird of the Wind corrects some of the more egregious errors perpetrated by the movie "Braveheart," so William Wallace can rest a little easier. I look forward to reading King's latest book.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Story! Review: Susan King writes about good people faced with difficult choices--my favorite kind! I loved following the adventures of James and his Isobel, with their feathered guardian angel above and beside them! A treasure from a gifted storyteller!
Rating: Summary: Unusual premise, fascinating characters, excellent story. Review: Susan King's characters shine in this story. Lady Isobel, the 'fey' Scotswoman whose visions foretell the future, and James Lindsay, the outlaw who believes her visions destroyed his life and reputation are pawns of fate, and of men willing to sacrifice them to achieve their own ends. Vengence and innocence war to a satisfying conclusion in this well-written story of love and destiny.
Rating: Summary: A truly wonderful, beautiful story. Review: There are not enough adjectives to describe this wonderful book. Susan King's Laird of the Wind is a beautiful story. I could not put the book down. I started reading Sunday night and ended up taking a half day off from work to finish it. This is the first of her books I have read and I plan on reading all of them. She knows what real romance and love is all about. She has not only created a story that pulls you in as soon as you begin reading, she gives you characters that stay with you long after you have finished reading the last page, and a wonderful glimpse of the history of Scotland. I truly loved this book!
Rating: Summary: Disappointed again Review: This is the second book I have read by this author and it was as disappointing as the first. This book lacks the action, the humor and the building of the romantic connection that I have found in books from Garwood and Quick.I found the historical content to be intriguing and the way she wove the William Wallace legend into the book. Beyond this it was hard to stick with the book. I found myself running through the boring sections to get to the more interesting section and then discovered that all of the interesting sections are at the end of the book. I probably should have just started reading at page 200.
Rating: Summary: Another Keeper Review: This was my second book by Susan King and I love it as much as the first (Lady Miracle). Not only does she manage to surround you in history until your breathing it as you read, but she also brings together two amazing people who have suffered the pain real life can bring. I loved the tenderness in James. It's something you don't often find in the hero's of romance. (The strong silent type is nice, but it gets a little old when so many of the books you read have hero's made from the exact same mold) I'm a 15 year old romance fanatic and I have to say Susan's books are some of the best historicals I have found. Since reading this book I have added four more of her titles to my collection of over two hundred books. And as she puts out more I will be there to buy them. I'd also like to add I think it is a shame the first review of this book was a bad one. 'Disapointed Again' couldn't have been reading the same book I was.
