Rating: Summary: A Stunner! Review: A time travel romance that is beyond any I have read before! Amazingly, this is Karen White's first novel. I didn't know that until I finished the book and went to her website to write to her and tell her how much I enjoyed "In the Shadow of the Moon".The book centers on Laura Truitt and a strange lunar eclipse combined with a comet. Laura travels back to the Civil War era in search of her daughter. Here she meets Stuart Elliott and his family. This book kept me enthralled as Laura attempts to blend with the era she finds herself in and at the same time find her way back to the twentieth century. I had to laugh as Laura stuns and surprises Civil War era men with the independent spunk of a twentieth century woman. This book is a keeper and I will read it again, which I rarely do. Readers who enjoy romance, time-travel and edgy excitement will positively love this book!

Rating: Summary: Storytelling at it's finest. Review: For the lover of both historicals and tales with a paranormal twist, IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON, delivers a fantastic journey not just through time, but of the heart. Beautifully written, strong characters, dramatic settings and an excellent and believable time travel device -- need I say more?
Rating: Summary: A true find Review: From the first page, In the Shadow of the Moon grabs the reader and does not let go. The author's compelling characters, historic detail and vivid descriptions sweep you back to a Georgia torn by the Civil War. The heroine, Laura Truitt searches for her lost daughter, and finds more than she bargained for. Karen White has written a rich and powerful story that will linger in your heart long after the last page is turned. I truly loved this book, and anxiously await the next tale from Ms. White.
Rating: Summary: Don't judge a book by its cover Review: I do not read very many "romance" novels, but a friend passed this on to me, saying that I should put my doubts aside and read it. Well, I could not put the book down. Karen White tells the created people that I cared about, and kept the story moving at such a quick pace, I was always wondering what would happen next. I would recommend this book very highly for anyone looking for a relaxing, fun read that has a lot of history in it, too--brain food and soul food. Can't wait to read her next one!
Rating: Summary: Another great time travel novel Review: I don't read a lot of romance, but In the Shadow of the Moon was a pleasant surprise. At a time in my life when I needed an escape from reality Karen White provided me with a novel that allowed me to escape the 20th century with Laura Truitt. This thouroughly modern woman, swept into the 1860's and set the Elliot family ablaze. Stuart Elliot, the hero, is worthy of his role and has met his match when he stumbles across Laura. As a reader, it was frustrating when Laura couldn't tell Stuart her secret, but Laura knew Stuart and his loyality to the Confederate Army. Stuart Elliot would have changed the course of history with her secret. In the Shadow of the Moon stuck to all the rules that revolve around time travel, plus provided this reader with a wonderful experience of living in a time that no longer exists. I can't wait to see what Karen offers us next.

Rating: Summary: Original and compelling Review: If you're an author hoping to write historical romance, you'll probably get two pieces of advice: 1) don't write the book in the first person point of view; and 2) don't set it during the Civil War. Karen White has done both and pulled it off with panache. Laura Truitt is a feisty, fun heroine, and it's a joy to read about her accidental time travel adventure from her point of view. True to what another reviewer said, she can be rude at times--but she acknowledges it as a fault, tries to improve herself, and is a richer character for it. Besides, what twentieth century woman wouldn't get a little crabby finding herself in the nineteenth century, forced to wear corsets, and without access to Diet Coke? If you're an avid reader of historical romance, but want something to read besides the standard English, Scottish, or American West settings, this is the book to grab. Karen White has written an emotional, original story that's well worth the sleepless night you'll spend reading it.
