Rating: 4 stars
Summary: human twists & tears
Review: Dionysos in Tears is a man's book of sexual desire brought to fruition. Although the sex in this book is explicit, it is also ultra-romantic--an idealization of Woman and a splendid insight into an old-fashioned man who wants to care for his woman and their child.
Dionysos is a must-read for any woman wondering how in hell a man thinks. This painful study details patterns which change and processes that remain, closing the players into an affair in which no one wins, no one emerges whole.

The literary pseudo-biography tackles the mind and will of John Lion Deveron, a man haunted by his mother's prophecy that he was a man destined to be born--and destined to have a son of his own.
The book centers on Deveron's overpowering need to produce that son, that other life promised by his mother.
This mother abandoned Deveron when he was five. He was dumped on a relative's farm in the southern United States in the 1920s. Amazingly, he made his way in the world, becoming a noted journalist.
But his marriage is barren. How can he reconcile his destiny with this reality?
An affair, with a woman who is fertile and who wants to have Lion's son. A married woman, already a mother. She writes poetry, telling Lion he's a god. She'll leave her husband, she says.
A formula for disaster? Assuredly.
The how, the why, and the oh-so-human twisting turns make this a novel not to be missed.
