Summary: A waste of Time
Review: Although the subject was well researched, I found it incredibly hard to keep track of the characters. A lot of things were not explained and it was very hard to follow the story. I hope her other books are much better than this.

Summary: Interesting But Choppy
Review: Definitely more complex plot and characterization than the typical romance novel, which I appreciated. However, the excessive use of flashback made both the telling of the historical and the current events very choppy and hard to follow. Although I can appreciate flashback as a literary device, this book overused it. I enjoyed the characterization and story, and respected the detailed research she must have done on the Middle East. If only she hadn't constantly jerked me jarringly back and forth between the past and the present from page 1 all the way through to the end....

Summary: Time to move on
Review: I love Margot Early and have always believed she was incredibly talented. I look forward to her books, and am amazed by how they speak to me. But it is time for her to move on from Category Romance. She has always been wasted in this type of book, but now her plots are too complicated for the genre. I have trouble following them, and her voice is significantly changed from her earlier books. I love the characters and their flaws, but it can no longer be forced into this type of book. It doesn't fit what the reader wants, and I'm worried she will lose her readership base. Move on, Margot. Like Barbara Delinskey, you are ready for the the full-length MIRA type book.

Summary: Excellent Writing
Review: Margot Early is a truly gifted writer. Her characters are well developed and complete. The story draws you in and holds you. There is nothing lacking. She has the gift of being able to make fictional characters and their stories come alive. This is rare and should be appreciated, not criticized. There is depth to what she writes, which may be too much for the typical romance reader. I agree that she is in the wrong genre and should probably find a better way to get her work published. My advise is this, if you want a typical everyday, buy-it-off-the-supermarket-shelf no-brainer paperback romance then this is not the book for you. If, on the other hand, you have a working brain (along with the ability to recognize a flashback when you see one - this apparently is rare too) and you want to truly fall in love with the characters and their story then I highly recommend this book. I doubt Margot Early is in any danger of losing her fans, her writing gets better and stronger with each book.

Summary: Wonderful Book
Review: This is a great story, the plot and characters have great depth. The flashbacks didn't bother me a bit, they served to clarify what was going on. I'm really glad I bought this book. It's definetly one I'll hang on to, and I'm picky about which books I keep. I especially like the way Ms. Early incorporates historical and cultural information into her books. I learned something while being entertained. Always a bonus.
