Rating: Summary: Fabulous characterizations Review: At the Templeton warehouse in Rockford, the fire department makes a forced entry to try to rescue Alex Templeton, who is trapped inside the burning building. Firefighter Francesca Cordaro rescues an unconscious Alex, but breaks her arm while dragging him out of the blaze. Alex suffers from smoke inhalation. He and his rescuer are hospitalized. Feeling a bit better, Alex goes to thank the man who saved his life only to greet the beautiful Francesca.Alex wants to see Francesca, but she refuses even though she acknowledges to him that she is attracted to him. She informs Alex that he belongs in the affluent world of her mother and not those of a working stiff like she and her firefighting father. As Alex tries to prove to Francesca that their growing love will cement a permanent relationship between them, she knows how her mother deserted her father, her, and her two brothers. Readers will FEEL THE HEAT as Kathryn Shay provides a realistic look at the personal and professional lives of firefighters. The story line centers on the inferno blazing between Francesca and Alex. However, the secondary characters augment the tale by showing how fire fighters make up a cohesive team that supports one another even away from the station. Ms. Shay will provide a follow-up treat by telling the story of two secondary characters who deserve their tale told in her "America's Bravest" trilogy. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: A new author for my TBR Review: I just recently discovered Kathryn Shay and Feel the Heat was the first book I read. I loved the strong heroine, Francey, who is a kickass firefighter and saves Alex, the hero. He is a little shocked to discover that his savior is a woman, and is instatnly attracted. Kathryn Shay's research shows, but she doesn't beat you in the head with it. You feel as if you are in the firefighters' shoes and everything rings true. Her characters are also well crafted, Francey and Alex are truly each other's soulmates.

Rating: Summary: Unique! Review: If you're looking for a change of pace from the usual baby/bride/cowboy books that seem to have overrun the category lines (not to knock them, but not everybody wants to read these books ALL the time), then buy this book. Not an over-used plot line in sight. In fact, what you get here is an intelligent and sympathetic look at gender roles, how they've changed, and how that can sometimes cause problems in a relationship. In an interesting twist, it's the heroine, Francey, who's in a dangerous profession while the hero gets to worry--but the dangerous profession (firefighting) isn't glamorized or handled superficially. The author spent two years researching this book and its sequels, and this shows. She has a respect and affection for firefighters that shines through. The inherent danger of a book with such a strong heroine is that the hero might lose a bit of his edge, but I think the author made Alex a strong enough figure that this wasn't a problem, although at times he did seem a little too in touch with his female side. The secondary romance between the heroine's divorced parents was heartwarming, the secondary characters were well drawn (considering the number of them and the length of this book!), and the solution to Alex and Francey's problems weren't easy or pat. You're left with the feeling that these two can make it work, but it will take some effort and compromise on both their parts--very realistic, I think. I recommend this book without reservations!
Rating: Summary: Feel the Heat Review: It was an excellent book. The characters were realistic, thanks to the author's research. To me, it showed how foolish pride can stand in the way of a relationship (between friends or family).

Rating: Summary: Loved It! Review: Maybe it's because I'm a firefighter's wife, but this is one series I couldn't pass up. The characters were very believable and descriptions of a firefighter's daily life allowed you to really "Feel the Heat"....Both from the fire and the romance! I recommend all three books to everyone. Thank you, Kathryn Shay.

Rating: Summary: Loved It! Review: While I understood Francey's hesitations, this carried on for too long. I really started to dislike her and Alex. They both seemed weak. I did like the romance with the parents, but it too seemed awfully tortured. All and all, this book had too much angst. K. Shay writes real well. I just didn't like her people. (And there's way too much-- are they or aren't they, going on with the sexual aspect of the book.)
