Rating: Summary: tedious Review: The problem with romantic comedy plots is that too many authors writing for the genre have no sense of humor. Or else their humor is so tedious it has the reader pulling her hair out. That was certainly the case with Bevarly. The thought that two grown women are so obsessed with events/people from high school twenty years earlier is really quite pathetic. An entire book around that premise is excruciating. The entire plot is one contrivance after another. This author needs to study up on writing men. Men do not talk like that!!! The two guys in the story were indistinguishable from each other when they spoke, as were all the flat cardboard characters. It's interesting to note that the only people who gave this book a good review are other writers. Certainly the readers weren't fooled in this instance.
Rating: Summary: What a Disappointment Review: The story of twin sisters, Eve and Simone Van Dormer, returning to their birth place of Cincinnati, Ohio for their 20-year high school class reunion after being spirited away to California by their paranoid father a week after their prom who feared for their lives after being threatened because of a business deal gone bad. The twins are adamant about returning to their reunion so their worried father hires a bodyguard for each of them to protect them from a potential threat on their lives. Each twin has a separate secret about prom night that perhaps had something to do with the women they've become. The storyline was very slow and mostly uninteresting (it took me an entire week to finish this novel and that's including skipping over pages). I will admit the last 30 pages were the only appealing points throughout the entire novel when it is discovered that Eve and Simone's lives may really be in jeopardy concluding that the threats are not because of their father's paranoia. I loved Ms. Bevarly's My Man Pendleton, Her Man Friday and How to Trap a Tycoon but I have to admit "He Could Be the One" was a total disappointment and a waste of time and money. Looking forward to the next release.
Rating: Summary: DON'T PAY FULL PRICE FOR THIS ONE! Review: This is not a keeper. I'm not saying throw it back, just don't pay full price for this book. The story would have worked much better had EB limited her use of "uh", "eh", "um", "mmm", "hmm", and "gee." A little of this and the reader thinks it's cute, but too much will drive you crazy. To make matters worse, the hero is primarily the guilty party. Instead of making him endearing, he comes across as being inept. Let's hope this isn't a trend which EB plans to adopt for future books. If you haven't read "How To Trap A Tycoon". . .do so. It's EB at her best.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic romance-A must read Review: Two decades ago, eccentric multimillionaire businessman Luther Van Dormer abruptly left Cincinnati suburb Woodhaven with his two daughters in hand. He resettled in California. Now he calls Wyatt Culver, who took his daughter Eve to the prom that night before she relocated, asking him to kidnap his daughter so she will not attend her high school reunion. Luther fears for the safety of his beloved children in their hometown after a deal went sour years ago. Private investigator Wyatt Culver and his partner Julian Varga reluctantly agree to the abduction. Although he knows what a spitfire Eve was, Wyatt was not prepared for the wild woman driving him crazy. Even stranger is the reaction between Julian and Eve's sister Simone. As the two sleuths struggle to keep their charges abducted and safe, they fall in love with the siblings who know that these men could be the ones for them. HE COULD BE THE ONE is an amusing romantic suspense romp that will remind readers of classic movies like "Bringing Up Baby". The story line combines angst, humor, and intrigue into a wonderful plot. The four key characters and their interactions make the wild ride seems genuine, touching, and just fun to follow. Elizabeth Bevarly has written a contemporary winner. Harriet Klausner
