Rating: Summary: Synopsis and review Review: Affaire de Coeur says of Heart of the Night: "Wilson is a master of suspense and dangerous excitement. . .absolutely enthralling!"
Reporter Kate August is helping Atlanta police trap a serial mail bomber the press has nicknamed Jack the Tripper when her series suddenly becomes dangerously "up close and personal." Jack begins to stalk Kate, even invading her apartment to leave a terrifying message between the sheets of her bed. Kate seeks the help of the only person who has survived one of Jack's special deliveries. Reclusive judge Thorne Barrington hates the media for their relentless and unfeeling intrusions into his life after he became Jack's first victim. He finds, however, that his hatred doesn't extend to Kate, and together they work to find a way to identify a killer who is now stalking them both.

Rating: Summary: Reads Quickly, but Doesn't Really Work on Any Level Review: Ummmmm...what was this book supposed to be again? As a mystery tale, it falls flat since there's really only one person who it could be and...surprise! That person did it. As a love story, it doesn't really work, since the protagonists only have a couple of encounters. Thorne is unable to leave his house and Kate is running all over the country. There really isn't enough interaction to see them falling in love, yet there they are in the end, apparently set to live happily ever after. Five run-ins and sex do not a happy ending make. And as a suspense novel, it doesn't really work, since there's not that much tension to push things along. Wilson's usual writing flair is present, giving the proceedings a slight boost. Too bad she didn't come up with a story worth bothering with.
