Summary: Going Home
Review: Going Home is a wonderful book, full of love and compassion and real people, with real problems. Mr. Alesich's descriptions of nature are on a par with William Faulkner's. They make you feel, see, and hear the sounds of nature, especially the sea, as though you are really there. Having read several other books by this very talented writer,Samuel Alesich has become one of my very favorite authors. His books have a beautiful spiritual quality about them and an uplifting philosophy -- no matter how bad things get, you can and will find salvation by "doing unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Summary: Very dissappointing
Review: I might have liked this book if I was 12. I read it in an hour and felt it a waste of my time. I do not recommend this book.

Summary: Don't wast your money
Review: If you are looking to pass the time and have extra money you'd like to waste buy this book otherwise don't bother. I read it wondering if it would ever get better . . . it did not. This is a short, not very well written, depressing story with far too much is left unsaid.

Summary: Compassion and sensitivty for ordinary people is why I write
Review: In Going home, I write about the pain and joy of ordinary people who are just struggling to survive and find some happiness in this life. Going Home, shouts about the beauty of a deep love between two people of different color. At one point in the story, Pam and John are sitting on a porch swing, and her head is resting against his chest. "Do you care about me?" she asked softly. "Yes," he mummured. His eyes were closed. "A whole lot?" "Yes, a whole lot." "But I'm a black girl." He opened his eyes slightly and saw a mischievous grin on her face. "Really? I hadn't noticed!" "Surely you have noticed, John," she said in a mock serious tone. He smiled and pulled her closer. "Honey, I don't even think about it. Always I look into your eyes and I see the beautiful person that you are. I see your soul. Since when do souls have color?" And so I have written about the things that are dear to me. Love for one another is the answer to all of man kinds problems. Where there is love, there will be understanding. And in understanding, we will always have peace.

Summary: A Book I'll Remember.
Review: In Going Home, Samuel Alesich intertwines two complex themes: family violence and the developing love between a bi-racial couple. The first is familiar, the second is rarely explored from the inside. Mr. Alesich intertwines the themes with a strong emphasis on spirituality and vivid descriptions of land and sea. I can only conclude that he is intimately familiar with both. The book is rich in tenderness and compassion. And, I found it a pleasure as well as a relief, to read a story in which the lead characters retain their morality and a touching innocence, even though the circumstances surrounding them are harsh. Going Home is a breath of fresh air in what seems to be a never-ending stream of books that feature heros and heroines who are less than honorable and without the ability to share a deep love. My thanks to Mr. Alesich for Going Home.
