Rating: Summary: knocks it out of the park! Review: Calla meets Henry when he gallantly helps her out with a flat tire, and when he shows up at the ranch she manages, she hires him for the summer. But (you knew there was a 'but' somewhere) she's got a boyfriend, a complete toad called Clark so she tries to ignore her attraction to Henry. As if. This is a funny, sexy story with good minor characters. A good first book by Ms. King.
Rating: Summary: raunch on the ranch, love it! Review: Claire King has hit paydirt in the desert with the creation of Calla and Henry. Yes, this is a formula romance plot but such sassy intelligent genuinely funny dialogue perk this up to a five star read. Since I live a few miles down the road from Claire (although I don't know her personally) I guarantee the details are authentic Idaho stuff - from the tight Wrangler's, expressions like "puffed up like a sage-hen", poking fun at Californians, and using "spud" as a term of endearment. If you think romances have covered it all, try this spudkicking romp.
Rating: Summary: Ms. King has a flair for humor that will have you laughing. Review: I enjoyed this debut book from page one. Ms. King has a flair for humor that will have you laughing out loud. This is a fast-paced story filled with love and laughter, with an underlying layer of suspense that keeps the pages flying. There are some great secondary characters to make this a well-rounded story, and great fun, too. Ms. King shows great promise of things to come. I for one look forward to reading her next book.
Rating: Summary: Fast, Fun and a wonderful debut! Review: It's such a delight to discover new talent! I loved this book and anxiously await Claire's next book. Her heroine is spunky and sassy, but very believable, the hero is mysterious in a number of ways that are uncovered at just the right times and while you might think you figure out who the "villain" is, you'll still be surprised at the ending!! congratulations, Claire King on your great first book!
Rating: Summary: A witty and clever plot, set in rarely visited Idaho Review: Scenes change rapidly and seemlessly in this fast moving love story with unusual elements of intrigue and refreshingly honest dialogue. Knight in a White Stetson is a well-structured, strongly visual story with multi-dimensional characters. There is the predictable baggage that each character brings to a relationship, but here it is treated without overbearing in the angst department. Rest assured that this is an author who will be around for a long time. Thea Davis
Rating: Summary: It sounds like real life, because it is! Review: The reviewers of the book have all said they liked the ranch setting because it seemed so true-to-life. That's because it is. I actually live on a working cattle ranch and a lot of what Calla and Henry go through is stuff my husband and I have experienced in 13 years on a 4,500 acre cattle ranch in Idaho. I think that experience is what gives the book it's appealing flavor. The reviews have been so amazing, I'm sort of reeling. It's my first romance, though I co-authored a book of non-fiction humor columns in 1997. People have responded so well to Calla and Henry, I'm almost sorry I'm finished writing about them. I'm working on three more books right now. One is about an Idaho large animal vet who falls in love with a cattleman, but loses him when she mistakenly diagnoses a disease in his herd. The second is about a hermit horse breeder who has an Air Force cargo plane crash on her remote ranch and has to deal with the Lt. Colonel who comes to oversee the crash cleanup. The third is about an oceanographer who goes to Baja to study gulf currents in the Sea of Cortez and becomes involved with a drug agent whom she erroneously believes is a smuggler. If I receive half as much encouragement from these three as I have for Knight in a White Stetson, I'll be thrilled! I told one of the reviewers that everyone should write romance fiction. It's like getting paid to have people say wonderful things about you!
Rating: Summary: Conversation and banter are one of Claire King's skills. Review: With all the cowboy books that have been on the market lately, it is wonderful to discover an author who gives the genre a totally new twist; the cowBOY is really a cowGirl. Th plot of this book has many twists and the real villain of the piece is a semi-surprise. It's suspenseful and at times spine-tingling, but the author never loses sight of the people and the romance. I will certainly look forward to reading more of Claire King's work.
