Rating: Summary: A delightful romp! Highly recommended Review: A nudist colony does not deter Ebony MacKenzie from her goal of interviewing the illusive Ice Cream King Reuben Renfro. She has forty-five minutes to get her story before she must uncover, but focus becomes difficult when she spies the nearly uncovered Isaiah Malone. Little does she suspect they share the same goal. Isaiah usually prefers curvaceous, wild women. Ebony's Sears suit and button up appearance does not fit the nudist resort or his own fantasies, and yet she captures his imagination. She also gets them thrown out of the resort, leaving them both desperate for an interview and pressured by family. Author Reon Laudat brings her own journalist flair and a hearty dose of humor in IT'S A LOVE THANG. It's a wild, roller coaster ride to the top complete with nudist colonies and paint ball competitions. The competition between Ebony and Isaiah is fierce, surpassed only by their sizzling chemistry. Dysfunctional families, Mickey Mouse jammies and passion keep the novel moving quickly. While parts may seem a bit unrealistic, they do not overshadow this delightful romp. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Getting the Scoop Review: Baring it all at a nudist camp, participating in a paintball tournament and spending the weekend together in a nasty rented room, are just a few of the tactics used by Ebony Mackenzie and Isaiah Malone, two journalists going after an interview of the elusive business mogul, Reuben Renfro. Ebony wants the interview for a chance at a journalism job with the Examiner because it will help her provide for her family. Isaiah wants the interview and job to prove something to his hard-nosed, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist father. Every time one of them think they have the scoop on a lead for the interview, the other seems to appear out of nowhere and needs rescuing, thus thwarting the chance for an interview. In all their togetherness, Ebony and Isaiah slowly come to the understanding that the attraction between them may be more important than the interview. This is a fun romance read. All the drama the characters go through to get the interview and the underlining sexual tension between the characters keeps the reader interested and guessing. The characters deal with some deep personal family problems. It is not so overwhelming that the reading becomes laborious and Black Gal, Granny Mac's dog is a scene-stealer. I think romance readers will enjoy this one.
Rating: Summary: funny ethnic romance Review: Butler County Bee reporter Ebony MacKenzie knows why she is going undercover at the Shangri-La Naturalist Retreat though she feels out of place at the nudist colony. If she can interview a member, Reuben "Ice Cream King" Renfro, Ebony will land a job with the Cincinnati Examiner. Journalist Isaiah Malone of the International Inquisitor and the Weekly Tale Tattler is also seeking the same interview as is other reporters. All want the job with the Examiner and the one who attains the interview will be hired. Isaiah and Ebony are caught in what looks like a compromising position so are tossed out of the nudist colony, making the interview that much more difficult. As they become better acquainted, they heed natures call and fall in love though they still compete for the same job. IT'S A LOVE THANG is a funny ethnic romance that readers and readers will find the player's antics funny. What makes the tale work is that different types of humor are employed from the subtle Benny-Carson look to outright slapstick. Though the ploy by the Cincinnati Examiner editor seems outrageously unreal (or at least unethical), Reon Landau furbishes the audience with a jocular romance that also provides some insight into the newspaper publishing industry. Rating: Summary: Recommended reading Review: Ebony MacKenzie and Isaiah Malone both worked for "rag" papers. They were both after the same full time position as a reporter for the Cincinnati Examiner. However, only the one who landed an exclusive interview with multi-millionaire Reuben Renfro would get the job. Renfro was as eccentric as they come! The two reporters go through nudist colonies, paint ball tournaments, sleazy sleeping quarters, and more in their efforts. Fate kept throwing the two rivals together and romance began. But how could they possibly trust one another? Rating: Summary: Cute, sexy, romantic comedy Review: Ebony MacKenzie has a shot at leaving the rag of a weekly where she works and snagging a full-time staff position at the Cincinnati Examiner if she can secure an exclusive interview with Reuben Renfro, The Ice Cream King. Unfortunately, the assignment involves pursuing the elusive millionaire to his favorite haunt, a nudist colony. At the same time Ebony is pursuing Renfro, reporter Isaiah Malone is also offered a promotion to a full-time staff position at the Cincinnati Examiner if he can lock up an interview with Renfro. He's no more pleased with Renfro's hangout than Ebony. And when these two competitors run into each other at the Shangri-La Naturist Retreat, it becomes harder and harder to keep their sights on Renfro, instead of each other.
This book got off to a fast start and kept up a merry pace throughout. The hero and heroine are both very engaging, the romance is passionate, and the story delightfully funny. If you like romantic comedy, you'll be thrilled with this new gem to add to your collection.
Rating: Summary: Love vs Ambition Review: Ebony Mackenzie is a petite and delicate woman, with a lot of problems. Due to a major trauma and loss that occurred when she was younger. Ebony has a tremendous sense of responsibility to her family. All that Ebony does is work so that she can provide for her family. Isaiah Malone is a ladies man, but beneath that facade is a man that only wants acceptance and love from one of the most important people in his life. He is a very ambitious man and will do whatever he has to do to get what he wants. One might think that Ebony and Isaiah are as different as night and day. They are actually more alike than they realize. Both of them are reporters who are chasing the same exclusive interview with Reuben Renfrow the Ice Cream King. Reuben Renfrow has become a recluse and that puts him in high demand for interviews. In Reon Laudat's It's A Love Thang, sparks fly between Ebony and Isaiah, as they battle for the interview that could change their careers. This book was a quick read and the story was very cute. While some situations were dragged out and could have been shorter, overall I found the book enjoyable and interesting. Reviewed by Simone A. Hawks
