Summary: A History to Remember
Review: I was stunned to find that no one has reviewed this book before. I really enjoyed it. A technologically advanced society, long forgotten in the world's history has a crisis and develops a plan to bring people BACK in time to help them. Time travel, and the problem the society faces aren't original ideas. But going back in-time to a society more advanced then your own gives the tale a unique twist. The novelty of this is lost a little purely because the society is so advanced. It is easy for the reader to think "future" instead of "past."This didn't bother me at all. I loved the story. You have a society desperate to survive and people from the future who at first just want to go home, but most of these people decide to help out before they leave. Speer handles the anger, frustration, fear, and upheaval experienced by the time travelers with remarkable skill. I think some of the travelers were a little too quick to forgive, but even as a reader I felt for the "kidnappers." How can you not. They are facing the destruction of not just their way of life, but there very existence. Speer did a remarkable job developing their characters as well. I really liked the differences between the various societies, culturally, spiritually, physiology, and of course technology. Instead of presenting the people from various times as the same, she developed differences that piqued the readers interest (and the time travelers interest too) Like I said great book. I recommend it to anyone who likes time travel and futuristic stories. I even recommend it to those of you (who like me) enjoy the complexities of human relations.
