Summary: An uncommonly well crafted love story
Review: I am no fan of love stories, but if the setting is well researched and convincing I can be carried along for an enjoyable ride.

Ms. Landenberger has done her homework and accurately places her characters in Philadelphia's transitional days of the 1840's.

The settings are real and detailed and Ms. Landenberger's style is a pleasant straddle between classic american love stories and Danielle Steel.

If the book has one failing it is the lack of a strong edit of this vanity publication. There are a large numbers of typos and misspellings, which at times detract from the author's pleasant voice.

Ms. Landenberger has received some modest press about her first publication, and it is disappointing to realize that this worthy novel did not receive the commercial attention it deserves.

Despite the fact that Ms. Landenberger has started publishing at an age that most of us will not achieve I hope she will grasp the pen once again and provide us with another joyful read. Maybe about Barbara's son in a Philadelphia civil war setting.

But most of all I would love to see her write about a young college women in the nineteen twenties. She should be able to speak with real authenticity. Fitzgerald better watch out.

Summary: An example for us all
Review: I found this novel to be a quick read. It certainly held my interest throughout and captured my imagination as well. I would definitely expect females from puberty to adulthood to enjoy its content. I feel the author, Ms Landenberger, should be extremely pleased with her newfound career.

Review: On November 1, 2002, after a long and remarkable life Ms. Beatrice Landerberger passed away. Her first and only novel was but a small sample of her remarkable intellect and talent. She will be missed.

Summary: A lovely book!
Review: This charming novel has almost everything one could wish for in a historical romance: well-drawn characters the reader quickly comes to know and love; a vivid sense of time and place; a refreshingly limpid writing style totally in keeping with the novel's historical setting; and a satisfying plot that keeps you turning the pages right up to the end -- an end that came far too soon for this reader.

Even absent the professional editing that "Gift of Love" would have received had a mainstream publisher had the wisdom to pick it up, this book outshines many a mass-market romance now sitting in glossy splendor on bookstore shelves.

So: Are you out there, editors at Avon and Signet and Zebra and Harlequin and Dell? Will one of you be brave enough to step forward and give Mrs. Landenberger a contract to write another book -- a sequel to "Gift of Love," perhaps, or a memoir of her own eventful life? At 93 years young, she surely has other enthralling stories to tell!
