Rating: Summary: Truly a book worth reading! Review: Brilliantly done! I've never been in any of the 4 character's situation & their experiences since I was never on an internship, nor was I a foreign exchange student, but I was so drawn in by the story, it kept me reading and turning the pages until the very end!( although with Jaime's character, I felt kinda attached, like as if I knew or had met the person one time in my life, it could probably because of the simple fact that we're both Filipinos...or maybe because he reminded me of an Uncle who left the Philippines too when I was really young. I'm sure my Uncle R. has his own share of adventures too like Jaime! though I wish I have had the chance to get to know him, maybe sit on his lap and listen to his stories( just like my Executive Uncle J.), get advices when I was growing up as a teenager (he could have filled this one in since no one did), or just singing the day away( just like my Deejay Aunt J.)...But even if we never had the chance to really get to know each other, I am proud of him, to what he had done to his life when he came to U.S., to his accomplishments and all.
Well, back to the review, the characters were so unforgettable, I just couldn't wait for the sequel! And I am so inspired, I'm now thinking of maybe writing my own book, ah, someday!( especially since I just realized that writing books runs in my family!)
I highly recommend this book to all my friends and to all booklovers like me! Truly, a book worth reading.....
Rating: Summary: I wanted more. I look forward to the follow-up book... Review: Enrico Antiporda can write and kept the pace and plot of Band of Gypsies moving along. I felt that this was partially autobiographical. It was a book that I am sure the author felt he must write. Some of the episodes may have been experienced first-hand. This had the feeling of a story that had to be told. My only complaints would be that it perhaps moved along too quickly. I wanted to know more details about the characters. I also felt that some of the violence was for shock value and Hollywood like. Though Jaime and Allison's developing relationship was the back-bone for the story, I also wanted more of Elena and Bjorn's relationship revealed as well. I felt that I was just starting to identify with some of the characters when it ended. To sum it up, I wanted more. I look forward to the follow-up book, but ask Enrico to go back and revisit this period again. The great moments of friendship between people of varying cultures thrown together were too short. The writing style was enjoyable and I like the use of foreign phrases and imagery.
Rating: Summary: Excellent - a wonderful book Review: Having also been on an intership, I found it very easy to identify with the characters and situations. The book brought back a lot of memories. The inclusion of historical events, spanish phrases, descriptions of places, people and food made reading The Band of Gypsies a very rich cultural experience. I only wish the book was longer. I would have loved to learn more about the other characters and their experiences. I was so drawn in by the story I couldn't put the book down. When I finished, I was almost disappointed because I was so eager to continue reading. I am really looking forward to Iberian Nights. I would certainly recommend The Band of Gypsies to anyone wanting to experience (or relive) the excitment and adventure of being in a foreign country.

Rating: Summary: A great book! I really enjoyed reading this book. Review: It was as if I was a part of this book. The details of the scenes captured me. They were so sharp in my mind as I read. I felt the characters pain, love and joy. I liked the way the characters were described. I loved reading in a different language. It was romantic. I never wanted to stop reading. I could read this one again. I can't wait to read "Iberian Nights".
Rating: Summary: Well worth it. Review: Quite gripping. Very fast moving. It pulled me into the story from page one and took me to Spain. The descriptions were so vivid I can see it. Even smell it. But what I really appreciate about it were the stories told by the characters in the book. Like the legend of the Gypsy King and the one about the Basque hero El Lobo. The book somewhat reminded me of Canterbury Tales. A modern version of it. I highly recommend this book.

Rating: Summary: A great read! Review: This book has a very fast paced story along with an interesting - and emotional - storyline. However I did agree with one of the others - I would have liked to know more about all the characters. Almost the book was too short! There are some interesting similarities to real life on an international traineeship and life among international students. While I wouldn't consider everything to be typical, it certainly captured the essence of that lifestyle. If you dream of travelling the world and experiencing exotic countries you will love this story! A great read - I certainly will be reading the sequel!
