Summary: Well investigated
Review: As a foriegner, I'm especially interested in US History and definitely look at it from a different perspective. What impressed me was the attention to detail. Too many civil war books are really re-hashed romance novels with historical locations, but this really had the feel that you were learning something as well as being entertained.

Summary: Exciting and fun
Review: by Nancy Wilson
I read books for escape from my normal routine. This book sure filled the bill. It also helped that it was well researched and taught me something.

Summary: Just like being there
Review: Derek Hart's obvious knowledge of the Civil War era and his intricate detailing of people, places and events, leads the reader on an amazing journey back in time. One does not merely read this book, but "watches" the battles of the war and "feels" the struggles and emotions of two brothers and the beautiful Countess. I couldn't put it down!

Summary: Unusual Historical Romance!
Review: Great Civil War Action & Romance
Unusual Civil War novel, told from the perspective of a Brazilian Countess, who also happens to be a Confederate spy. She enters the North as a diplomat, but is determined to steal the Union plans for their Naval blockade and the secret route of the Federal whaling fleet. Murder ensues and Countess Sophia Bario flees with her family to the South, where they are rescued from their pursuers by the timely arrival of Captain Robert Norton, commanding a detachment of Confederate cavalry. So sets the stage for a hot romance, while Sherman invades Georgia, burns Atlanta and marches to the sea. The historical research is top notch and is also drawn from the author's own family genealogical research. The characters are lively and believable, there's plenty of action, some pretty hot love scenes and it builds to page-turning enjoyment fairly quickly. I highly recommend! This is both a romance and a high-quality historical novel. It is a page-turner, which to me is a sign of a well-written and interesting novel. I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next.

Summary: Like They Used To Write Them
Review: I like action & adventure. I like historical novels, where fictional people are living during interesting times. I especially like accurate history blended well with fascinating characters. Well, this book matched my likes in every category. Yes, Sophia is hot and a spy. Yes, both the Yankees and the Rebs have likeable respresentation. But I just kept turning the pages and enjoying the flow. This is a good book, no great literary masterpiece, but entertaining and fulfilling. So, the next time you complain about not having read a good book, you obviously didn't read For Love or Honor Bound, or Derek Hart's other top-notch novel - Tangles of Truth.
