Rating: Summary: Interesting Premise Review: Being new to the interracial romance gendre and trying to select books which are not sexually explicit, I thought this work would fall right in line with what I was looking for. While the premise of a white pastor to an all black congregation was intriguing, I felt that the development of the varied interpersonal relationships would be of even greater interest, especially since the house of God is to be a place of unconditional love and acceptance. The fact that the new pastor would fall in love with the former pastor's daughter made the plot all the more appealing.
Unfortunately, I must agree with the other reviewers. This is undoubtedly the most poorly constructed and edited book I have ever read... in any genre. I was so disturbed that I looked into the publishing background, only to find that the book is a self-published work. Ah ha! This was explanation enough. There was no real guidance for Ms. Crutcher; the resultant poor character development and story lines were all victims of her limited ability and even less instruction.
Since the 'cliffhanger' ending leads one to believe there will be a sequel, I suggest the author invest in hiring a graduate student of English to assist her. I'm sure it would be a great learning opportunity for both. Perhaps between the two, we will at least read words that actually exist; i.e., 'eavesdropping' instead of 'ease dropping.'
I applaud the author's efforts, it just wasn't enough. I cannot recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: I Wanted to Like It Review: I believe this is the writer's first book. It is the story of a white pastor who falls in love with a black member of his church. Some of the issues I have with this book are probably out of the author's control, some are not. There are quite a few typos in this book, which seems to be standard for IR romances. My biggest complaint, as far as typos, is how an entire sentence will be in quotation marks, not just dialouge. For example, "Rita Micheal calls Yes Michael Rita answers.", this drove me crazy. A few times, right in the middle of the sentence, the second part of the sentence dropped down and started a new paragraph. I'd like to think these things are out of the author's or editor's control, but it did make it more difficult to read. As far as the story itself, I don't know what to say. The characters were not developed and the story was just over the top drama. I was following a long trying to make myself believe all the drama until 28 year old, otherwise healthy, Rita (the main character) has a stroke following being taunted by 3 teenaged boys. That was just too much for me. Add to that, 7 days after being released from the hospital (due to the stroke), Rita and Michael survive a tornado that destroys her apartment. Also, Michael proposes to Rita with a 3 carat platinum set diamond ring. Uhh, I'd like to know what he's doing besides preaching to be able to afford a 3 carat diamond ring. There is also big drama at the end as well as a load of other crazy coincidences throughout the book. I really wanted to like this book, but it was just unrealistic in some parts. I do, however, love the premise of the interracial church couple struggling with the congregation and their families.
Rating: Summary: Poorly written Review: I cannot believe how poorly written this book was! The editing was awful. Please have someone edit and re-edit before publishing. The story had such great potential but due to (again)poor editing and character development it landed flat. Pastor Green was not convincing at all as a hero. He needed to have more back bone. I would not recommend this book unless it had a complete over-haul. WARNING:Not worth the $17.50 plus S&H paid!
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointing Review: I have read quite a few first time authors - this book, In His Eyes, was by far one of the worst I've read, particularly at the price of $17.50. As the other reviews indicated, the book was full of typos, grammatical errors, dis-jointed and incomplete sentences. Miss Crutcher needs to go back to the drawing board.
Rating: Summary: In His Eyes Review: I was really interested in reading this book. I thought the premise of a white pastor falling in love with a black member of his congregation in the south would make for a more satisfying read. This book with all of its typos, unappealing characters (except for the heroine's mother), off-the-wall circumstances just basically left me irritated. In particular, I found Pastor Green to be wishy-washy. He was not a strong man and because of that, I found it hard to believe in his love for Rita. The conviction to me just was not there. I could not in all good consciousness recommend this book to any one. I will be getting a refund.
