Review: After devouring this book in one sitting I was left wondering why this author is not more well known. If this book is indicative of her talents then she should be a star. In other words, Ms. Leone has created a book that has it all: steamy romance, heart stopping action and a hero that is to die for.

Madeleine Barrington the daughter of a wealthy, socially prominent family is shocked to the core when she realizes that the man she has ben dreaming about, the man she had an anonymous one night stand with while on a business trip to south america is the same man her father has hired to accompany her back to that same country as her bodyguard. She has tried in vain to forget that terrible lapse of judgement in which she allowed herself to put her guard down let this stranger see her as no one else ever had before.

On the other hand, Ransom has never been able to forget the woman who gave him the most incredible night of his life. At first he was hurt when he woke up to find her gone after the night they had just spent in each others arms. Later, when he realizes the woman he can't stop thinking about is the same millionaire corporate CEO he has been hired to protect he is furious. He feels she used him and he will not soon forgive her for it. Madeleine is drowning in shame for what she did with the stranger but she has no choice and must let him accompany her and so she sets some ground rules: absolutely no touching and no references to that wild night they spent together. Once they get to Montedora (a fictional country in South America) Madeleine finds herself more and more captivated by this arrogant, surly man but she is determined to keep her distance no matter what his sex appeal. Fate, however, has other plans and Madeleine finds herself a fugitive in a foreign country on the verge of a revolution depending on Ransom for her very life.

What made this book a keeper for me was the chemistry between Madeleine and Ransom. After I closed the book there was no doubt in my mind that these two, despite their social differences, were meant for one another and would definitely live happily ever after. Also, Ms. Leone writes great dialogue and the verbal sparring between the hero and heroine made me laugh out loud in several instances because they sounded so much like an old married couple. In the end, this book came thisclose to being a solid five star read but alas I found that deep in the story the action takes too much away from the romance. However, I still consider this book a keeper. If you love irreverent, arrogant but sweet and sexy heroes pick up this book and I assure you you will not be disappointed. :0)

Summary: Entertaining Contemporary Romance!
Review: Madeleine Barrington, of the Barrington Food Products Barringtons, had just finished several frustrating days in Montedora City, Montedora, South America. She was determined to sell her family's plantation and leave the primitive country of Montedora behind her. Unfortunately, years of neglect and political unrest have kept her family's plantation from prospering and Madeleine knows that it will be hard to get rid of. When Madeleine's flight is indefinitely delayed, she is stuck in a rundown hotel in Montedora City, sipping a horrible drink and contemplating what got her into this mess in the first place. When Ransom first sets eyes on the beautiful blonde sitting forlornly at the bar, he knows that she is someone he wants to get to know better. A lot better. Madeleine isn't sure what to make of Ransom and starts to brush him off, but she is inexplicably drawn to him and decides to spend the night with him. It was the most incredible night of passion that Madeleine has ever had - and Ransom feels the same way. However, Madeleine is embarrassed at her lack of control with Ransom and just cannot face him so she sneaks out early in the morning without telling Ransom who she is.

Ransom is furious that his angel left without revealing her identity and tries to find her, but he fails. He vows to leave Montedora behind him and never go back. However, when Marino Security International hires him to act as a bodyguard for a Madeleine Barrington while she completes some business in Montedora, he is forced to take the job. When he discovers that his angel is none other than Madeleine Barrington, he is determined to keep his distance and to let her know that she means nothing to him. Madeleine is stunned at Ransom's arrival and is terrified that he will tell her family about their one night stand. When they arrive in Montedora, she breathes a sigh of relief and gets down to business. But when President Veracruz' military advisor, Escalante, stages a coup, the whole country rises up in rebellion. Madeleine and Ransom find themselves in the middle of a country with no friends and no one to rely on but each other. As they struggle to escape from Montedora, Ransom and Madeleine come to realize that there is more to their love than a one night stand...

This was an enjoyable contemporary romance featuring two strong willed people who started their relationship at the wrong point and the wrong time, but were able to work it out anyway. Madeleine was a particularly engaging heroine as she was practically perfect and never realized how much her striving for perfection alienated her family and those around her. I liked that Ransom loved her because she wasn't perfect and that he taught her that it was okay to make mistakes and get support from those who love you. The supporting characters were also well developed and fun to get to know. The setting was a little too stereotypical poor South American country for me and so the plot was a bit farfetched, but it is a romance, after all. I would have liked to have seen a bit more romance between the two main characters and a bit less abrupt ending, but this book is still well worth your time to find a copy!

Summary: electrifying romantic suspense
Review: Patrician Madeleine Barrington has been visiting politically unstable Montedora selling off her family plantation, but now is trying to leave the country. However, her flight is canceled so she has one more night to spend in Montedora City.

Having completed his assignment for Marino Security International to improve security for the Montedora president, Ransom looks forward to going home tomorrow. He enters the Bar Tige and sees the American female looking sad and drinking alone. Unable to ignore her though that is out of character for him, Ransom joins Madeleine. Out of character for her too, she accepts the company and the twosome share the best night of their lives in this depressed oppressed nation.

When Madeleine has to return to the even more dangerous Montedora to complete the property sale, her concerned father hires Marino Security International to protect his daughter. Ransom is assigned personal security of Madeleine unaware that she is the woman he has not forgotten. As they travel together fighting every step of the way while falling in love, the two Americans are caught in the middle of a deadly civil war with both antagonists wanting to use them as negotiating pawns.

FEVER DREAMS is a reprint of an electrifying romantic suspense adventure starring two wonderful lead protagonists who cannot stay on the same planet together without either fighting or hugging. The story line is action-packed especially when the duo returns to Montedora and never slows down until the final confrontation. Laura Leone (AKA Laura Resnick) has written an exhilarating romantic thriller that sub-genre fans will devour in an invigorating sitting.
