Summary: Not as good as I expected
Review: I kept wishing this novel was better, because it has such a promising plot & began so well! It just seemed very repetitious, & by the end, I was forcing myself to finish it. Not at all what I expected from Ms. Archer after reading "Dragon's Dower". But that's a later book, so I guess her skills improved with age.

Summary: Romantic Times Review
Review: Under pressure from her father, Baron of Penacre, Lady Meredyth Chalmers has always felt responsible for her strikingly beautiful, white-blonde older sister Celeste. Now, by order of King John, Celeste must marry Roland St. Sebastian, the new Baron of Kirkland.

Celeste refuses to come to the chapel. She loves and has given herself to Sir Giles. To save Celeste and her familys honor, Meredyth dons the wedding gown, disguises her red hair and marries Roland.

Roland trusts the bond of pleasure, and the night does, in fact, make Meredyth accept the reality of the marriage. But Roland is not happy about the trick the women played. It confirms his mistrust of all women and love in particular. But for the kings purpose and the dowry, one sister is as another.

Meredyth sets out to forge the bonds of peace by performing her duties under the mistrusting eye of her husband. Her role in Celestes life and the intrigue which involves the mysterious Sir Giles threatens everything, especially Rolands life.

Although Meredyth and Roland are lovers from nearly the beginning of the book, Catherine Archer keeps the sexual tension amazingly high. This finely crafted medieval romance is a window into the cast of mistrust within a family and in marriage. An innovative plot twist at the beginning and another at the end make FIRE SONG a tale to savor. SENSUAL
