Rating: Summary: What does love have to do with it. Review: I just could not get all the way to the end. I was sick and tired of the whinning. I truely did not care if they got together, stayed together or just walked away. Ms. Rice failed to make me care about the charactors. The book went on and on forever. I have tried three times to make it to the end of this book but I CAN NOT DO IT.
Rating: Summary: What does love have to do with it. Review: I was wishy washy about getting this book, but once I started to read this book it was GOOD! I loved the theory Genie had with men, but once David came on the scene he changed her way of thinking. In my opinion I think David was just bored with his dead end marriage and he saw something interesting in Genie. He wasn't as serious about her as she was about him. I didn't really like David's character because he was unsure of what he wanted. The ending to this book really suprised me....I was like WHAT!!!
Rating: Summary: Had the potential to be a lot better.... Review: In the beginning of this novel, Patty Rice introduces the main character (Genie Gatlin) as a woman who sees straight through men and the games they play and uses them as a tool for her own gain. Later on the author shows the reader that Genie's nonchalant, loveless attitude for men is actually a lifestyle she's chosen because of her pass. Ultimately, Genie is heartbroken and and realizes that she needs to change her self-destructive behavior. Overall I enjoyed this book. It was really well written. It was set in the DC Metro area (where I live). Although I liked this book, I think the author could have given us a more detailed picture of Genie getting her life back together rather than focusing so much on her pain and struggle. I was satisfied with the ending but I would liked to have seen more of the events leading up to it. You'll see what I mean if you decide to read this one. I don't want to give it away. Happy Reading!
Rating: Summary: Very Dissapointing!!! Review: Let me say I do not condone affairs with married individuals and as far as I'm concerned, there are no exscuses. The word married means married, no matter how unhappy that individual may be, if the relationship is that bad, get out of it legally and then go for it. There are to many problems to deal with and you know that old saying, what comes around goes around. I did enjoy the way Ms. Rice wrote the story which kept my interest. In the end, Genie did fine true love which was there all the time, she was just to busy looking some where else. Sometimes, we need to look in front of us instead of getting a side view...
Rating: Summary: SOMETHIN' EXTRA IS SOMETHING ELSE! Review: SOMETHIN' EXTRA IS SOMETHING ELSE! Ms. Rice has penned a blessing. Mid-life crisis, dating and falling in-love with married men, workaholism, alcoholism, child molestation and sexual abuse, parenting of middle-upper class teenage African-American males in a hip-hop culture... the list of issues goes on. However, Ms. Rice doesn't meander or lose focus. Her work is tight, enlightening, funny, sad, and altogether lovely! As one other reader suggests... "any young woman(or older) thinking of getting involved with a married man, should definitely read this novel." Ms. Rice you also have the makings of a wonderful "relationship film." Director/Screenwriter, Malcom Lee (Best Man), 40 Acres and a Mule Productions, would really do your story/novel justice on the Big Screen! Looking forward to seeing the movie!
Rating: Summary: it was good Review: Somethin' Extra is the story of Genie, who finds herself in love with David, a older married guy. David was a happily married guy until his wife start spending too much time on the job, he finds himself in love with both women, he must make a decision. Though I don't like the ideal of women going with men they know are married, the author gives us a funny read of Genie and David's love affair
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!!!!!!! Review: This book was truly one of the bes that I have read in a long time. The plot was so real. The characters were real also. It awakens you to a few lessons in life that are needed. Love is dangerous but can have a happy ending. I could not put this book down. I read it everywhere. Patty Rice is off the chain. This book should sit on every woman's shelf. Girls please let your men read this book also. It teaches a lesson...
Rating: Summary: Something Touching and Captivating Review: This novel had me interested the whole time but something about the story line just did'nt grab me. Maybe the way it ended, I just hated that to me he took the cowards way out and did'nt be a man about the way he handled his mistakes. To me he was just in lust and reality hit his behind like many men. All in all it was a good book, it was worth the money.
