Rating: Summary: This thing called love. Review: FOR LOVE'S SAKE is the story of a group of friends, Qiana, Nigel, Terrell, Rita and Rashawn. Qiana, in a relationship that is going nowhere fast, decides to heed the call of her biological clock by having herself artificially inseminated. Believing that she has chosen the perfect father for her child, Qiana's world is turned on its ear when there is a mix-up at the clinic and she finds out the real identity of her donor. Nigel, a successful attorney, is plagued by a recurring dream. It's only after he receives some news that will forever change him that the meaning of the dream is revealed. Terrell, also an attorney, is in a relationship with Rita. Rita, a psychologist, is ready to get married, but Terrell is fighting the idea tooth and nail. Rashawn, who is Rita's sister and a professor at the local university, fears for her life after rebuffing the advances of a guy one too many times. FOR LOVE'S SAKE is a very intriguing and captivating story. With a very detailed plot, believable characters, and a surprise ending, author Michelle McGriff draws the reader in from the very beginning and leaves you anxious to read the sequel. Rating: Summary: Quick...Cute...Interracial Romance Review: Having read some of the other reviewers here I have to agree that the editing in this book was atrocious, and the book itself was jumpy and moved a bit too quickly to resolution. However, after reading more of this author's work I have to admit that seeing her growth made this book very much worth the read. By the time I got to her latest release, I saw this book in a different light. The story itself is good and the revised `edited & extended' version (which I got to read) that is coming out by the end of the year is even better. This author, after meeting her, made me realize what writers' feel when they write and when they read reviews and when they get the feedback (both good and bad). She helped me see what they do and why they do it. "For Love's Sake", she said. Her smiled never faded. I give her an extra star just for that.
Rating: Summary: Editing Anyone? Review: Highly recommend picking up a copy. I really enjoyed the characters.
Rating: Summary: Sharp Read Review: I enjoyed For Love's Sake. It was a quick read. A page turner. Starting out with a recurring dream that kinda haunts the halls of the book, I thought the writer did a neat job of bringing that around when you least expected it and tying it into the story. The characters had a quick wit and filled the 147 pages with sophistication. I thought the inter-racial angle was nicely done too. Artifical insemination is not a common topic and I think the writer handled it in a cute tongue-in-cheek style that took on the adult topic of 'Baby Making' without going over the edge with alot of cursing and graphic sex. It was a fun read.
Rating: Summary: The Choices we make Review: I just finished the latest version of FOR LOVE'S SAKE, and I only have one complaint. The book wasn't long enough! The closer I got to the end, the more I dreaded the dwindling pages I had left to read. Ms. McGriff did a wonderful job showing us something different from the same-old stale topics. Her characters were fresh, and her voice unique. Carefully blending a mix up into a fix up, Ms. McGriff will have you pulling out your entire range of emotions. I look forward to the sequel! I loved the author's use of words, and the movement of the plot. An emphatic two thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: Everybody make room for a Great Writer Review: I like this book because even though Nigel didn't have to take responsibility for the baby, he was ready to. And you can see another way a relationship can be formed, by fate and caring. Although what happened with the baby made me a little uneasy, it was well made up for in the end. Over all I Liked the book, but i think next time i read it, i'll read it when im not pregnant.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not better than the first one Review: I was very disappointed in this remake. I was hoping that it would focus more on Qiana and Nigel, the only couple that I had a real interest in. Terrell and Rita are okay, but they are not the couple that everyone likes. Qiana and Nigel are the couple that people want to read about. There were about maybe five or six extra pages on Qiana and Nigel. Honestly I prefer the first printing (the shorter version)over this novel. I absolutely love that novel, but this one is just okay. It doesn't add anything to the old story. It just lengthens it, nothing more. In my opinion you should just buy the first printing of this book and forget about this one.
Rating: Summary: I liked it Review: I've read the reviews here and all of them seem to agree that the flow of the book kept it moving. I enjoyed the pace. I felt like I was having a converstation with a friend about some people we both knew. It was like sistergirl Qiana, and what she was up to now 'buying a baby' "that's nasty" Rita says. And Terrell with his "When I get an Urge to donate..." That was funny. Personally I liked the "Black Chick" "White Chick" thing. I think it spoke to the group and their "way" of carrying themselves. It added "Flava" and a hip "style" to the Yuppies. I'm from the Bay and it's like that some time the way we talk when we let our hair down and have fun. Oh and Nigel finding his dad was very subtle...I liked that line "meeting my father or becoming my father" It was so true. Well, I liked the book all over! I alot of dry humor in the begining, making for a slower start but after that you just can't put it down.
Rating: Summary: The story was great! Review: The story was great! There were several issues that I could personally relate to with the main character Qiana - she was 35/36, wanted to have a baby by artificial insemination, and she ended up in an interracial relationship. The ensemble "cast" of the book was very believable, I just kept wishing there was a picture of the characters on the front, especially Nigel and Qiana. The book really held my attention, especially the last few chapters when it gets to the climax of the story. I think it would generate an interesting discussion as a book club read because of the controversial topics of artificial insemination and interracial relationships. -ES
Rating: Summary: WHAT A GREAT READ!!! Review: This was a different kind of read. I so enjoyed this book! Qiana Pattterson is hearing her biological clock ticking, LOUDLY, and decides that the rasta-wanna-be that she's been living with for three years is anything but daddy material. So deciding to take matters into her own hands, she finds an alternative way to find a solution to her problem. The only thing she doesn't count on is one Nygel Godwins. Nygel never wanted to be anybody's daddy. Why he chose to donate to a sperm bank is anyone's guess. With an ice-princess for a girlfriend, it was no wonder he had problems committing. However, when the sperm bank makes a horrible mistake, things change forever for Qiana, Nygel and the ice princess, Sherry, who has some secrets of her own. In the vein of true love stories, they both fight valiantly against the inevitable. However, when the fake rasta literally rips their world apart, it seems that things will never be the same for Qiana and Nygel. Ms. McGriff weaves such a wonderfully tender love story that you will find yourself smiling and nodding sagely as you experience these two unlikely lovers fall in love. With a nice twist, you will gasp in dismay and shock, but in the end, enjoy a most satisfactory end to this unique and moving story. My only regret is that the story wasn't long enough. I know that Michelle has done other sequels for other books. I would love to see one for this one. If not about Qiana and Nigel, but about Terrell and Rita. Now there was a story waiting to be told! Way to go Michelle!! I very much look forward to reading your other books.
