Rating: Summary: From Author, Author! Review: Twenty-eight-year-old Charlie Brown's primary goal in life is to help her son grow into a strong, self-reliant man. She has fashioned a satisfactory life for herself and son, clerking at the town's general store and considering what it would be like to return to college. Despite longing for the medical student-husband who abandoned her ten years back with an unplanned pregnancy, she's content most days. That is, until her successful heart surgeon ex-husband returns to town with grand plans of restoring his familial relationships. This prompts Charlie to analyze her life, deciding to upgrade her profession and enter school. While her self-image improves, so does the doc's view of her--and what a splendid family Charlie and their son would make for him. On the wings stands Steve, a widower and single dad himself, who sees Charlie's ex for who he truly is, a social-climbing jerk. It doesn't help that Steve would like to win Charlie's heart for his own. Gayle's witty dialogue and engaging characters make this a fun book. I found that I cared about Charlie and her personal development. After all, who hasn't stood at the crossroads trying to determine which road to take a time or two in their life? -- Madison at Author, Author!
