Rating: Summary: He Lies and Deceives and She Forgives and Forgets Review: When Anya Prescott's twin sister died with baby boy Oliver only an infant, Anya takes the child to raise as her own on an estate in England. The owners are in Australia and Anya is working as the caretaker and gets a break on the rent. Things are going all right for Anya and the other residents who live in the cottages on the estate, then Garson Deverill shows up, pretending to be interested in buying the estate. He has Anya and the others worried. He spends months, lying and deceiving her as he is actually Oliver's uncle on his father's side. While pretending to be what he's not, he learns all he can about her, to use against her in court if he has to. And of course when Anya finds out what and who he is, she's very, very mad at him for about a paragraph or two. The when he proposes a loveless marriage, for Oliver's sake, of course, she accepts.Oh yes, I should mention, that Garson is about as arrogant as they come. He constantly tells Anya things like, "You know you can't resist me." and "You know if we go into a bedroom together, you'll fall into my arms." How any woman on God's green earth would ever have anything to do with such an arrogant, lying you know what, I don't know. But our heroine in this one laps it up. Good writing though and Garson isn't abusive, just a scumbag who lies and deceives to get his way as if it were the natural thing to do, especially with dealing with a woman, so three stars from me for this one.
