Rating: Summary: New Talent Review: A great book from a new talent. Tender, raw, happy, sad, real, inspiring. Mr. Sims has a way of telling you this story in a way that keeps you wanting to read to find out what is going to happen next. Don't sleep on this one!
Rating: Summary: Keep turning the pages Review: Although the story begins just a little slow,(what good story doesn't?), I quickly found myself engrossed with what was going to happen next. I found myself wanting to find out what was going to happen next, kind of like watching someone elses lives unfold with all of the different paths that real life gives us.
The story begins with two teenage African American kids, Tyrone and Debra, who fall in love in middle class NYC, and all of the trials that they go through trying to deal with semi- adult issues, and keeping thier relationship secret, while staying together.
After sometime has passed, they are High school graduates with bright futures ahead of them, when they decide that they would forget college for a year and pursue a career in the music industry.
While performing one night they are introduced to Fran who, offers to be their manager, and who as a bi-sexual, has an ulterior motive of wooing her two young artists into her bed.
It's hard enough holding onto love as it is, without the interference of someone who has their own agenda, and Tyrone and Debra, find themselves fighting Fran, Raul, the world, themselves, and each other to keep what started out so pure, together.
It is a bittersweet tale that has a lot of twists to it. some you would expect, and others that you don't. But, the writer has a knack for writing in such a way that you find yourself turning the page to find out what the hell happens next!
The language is at times a little raw, and there are some graphic sexual scenes(tastefully done, and brings back a few memories. But, this is one I would recommend.
Rating: Summary: Coming of age story...A real page turner! Review: Debra and Tyrone, are the main characters in this story. They are two African American kids growing up in a middle class neighborhood in NYC, who fall in love very young, and all that they go through as they enter adulthood still together. There are so many surprises, I hate to go into anymore detail without giving the story away.
It brought back memories of my first school age love dealing with parent and peer issues. What I liked most about this book is that the writer gives just enough information to let your imagination take flight, and visualize the scenes. I like twists and turns, a little bit of the unexpected, and endings that don't follow the norm, and this book delivers just that.
I feel that women will really like this book because it is sensitive, thought provoking, sensual, at times erotic, and a trip down memory lane. Who doesn't remember their first true love, and the prices paid to hold onto it? I hope to see more from this author in the future, This is a good start.
Rating: Summary: WOW!!! Review: This was a great book. I found myself on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading. I always wanted to see what was going to happen to Tyrone and Debra. This book was so captivating, I couldn't put it down. I give it three thumbs up!
