Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A Solid Read
Review: I read this novel in high school, and met the author soon thereafter. It never ceases to amuse me that when a novel like this is reviewed in the secular market, the reviewer is nearly always put out by the spiritual overtones. Reviewers handle dogma of all belief systems in most of the books they review, yet Christianity seems to irk them like no other faith. I theorize that the criticism because of the spiritual content of novels like this one must stem from some sort of inner guilt or insecurity.

But on to the novel. Granted, this may not have the intricate plot lines or dynamic diaglogue we get from seasoned authors, but view the novel for what it is...a simple story with complex details.
I enjoyed the story for it's straightforward approach. While events of the plot were predictable, I have a feeling this is because the book isn't about what will happen as much as it's about how the characters deal with and react to what goes on.

Too many books (and movies) try to "wow" us with some sort of plot twist or shock value, and it's refreshing to read a story about people dealing with life and having the faith to turn to their beliefs and find strength in something greater than themselves.
