Summary: Union General and "little rebel" find love
Review: Cummings' MY REBEL BELLE is a tender love story with a meticulously researched historical background. Set during the Civil War, it is much more than a historical romance. I was touched and thrilled over and over by the feelings of the Union general for the young rebel woman. But feelings and longings for freedom of the slaves on the plantation are explored as well. All the characters come alive in this book and in so doing, history is transformed into a story as new as tomorrow. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: My Rebel Belle, a Wonderful Love Story
Review: My Rebel Belle is better than Gone With the Wind. Characters are much more realistic and without stereotypes. All of the slaves in the story are portrayed with a great amount of dignity and intelligence. Their importance to the smooth functioning of the plantation home is always emphasized. The struggles that women and slaves faced in maintaining their homes when the men were off to war were very clear. These women struggled valiantly to keep their homes together, and this rescued union officer helped keep this family alive. Every woman who has ever dreamed of rescuing and hiding a handsome Civil War soldier will love this story. There are many interesting and humorous situations that come up throughout the story as the southern women try to conceal the officer's identity. All of the conflicts between an opinionated northern officer and a headstrong southern belle are overcome by the love that grows between them. I highly recommend this book...

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This book was really good and the characters and story really capitavated my attention. The little romance between the main characters is really cute! You should read this book if you like Civil War non-fiction stuff. I hardly ever read anything, but when I started reading this, I couldn't put it down until the very last page! ^_^

Summary: Praise for My Rebel Belle
Review: This novel is a wonderful read. Cummings draws a vivid landscape of Culpepper County, Virginia in the years of the Civil War while creating a memorable love story. Mara, a young Southern belle left to run the family plantation after her father's death and brothers' enlistments, finds herself wrestling with feelings of disloyalty when her family shelters a wounded Union officer, Major Lee Brooks, in their home. Early exchanges between the two are fiery and entertaining, as Mara begins to realize that Lee's presence is at once protection and danger for her family, not far away from the cannon fire and shouts of the bloody war. Cummings demonstrates well the irony of a Southern lady, complete with fine manners, modesty, and a house full of Negro slaves, bantering with a Boston lawyer-turned-Yankee-officer. What is especially notable about this book is Cummings' patience in allowing her characters to grow and change as the war slowly and painfully changes the American landscape forever. They gradually move from partisan loyalties to deeply human feelings of trust and love, forgiveness, and devotion. Readers interested in Civil War era historical fiction will find the author's treatment of military movements impressive and precise. Readers of romance will appreciate her development of an incredibly ironic, yet memorable couple. I hope to see more of Ms. Cummings' work in the future.
