Summary: A fine romance
Review: I stumbled across this book in a used bookshop and took it home on a whim. Am I ever glad I did! This unusual and well-written romance was one of the better ones I've read in a long time. I was very sad when I searched Amazon and could find no other books by this author.

The story centers around Cat, a London thief whose family was murdered by a powerful man and Nicholas D'Avenant, the Lord of Misrule whose reputation has been damaged by some of the same people who threaten Cat. The two join forces uneasily out of necessity(he's doing intelligence work for Elizabeth I and she's trying to avenge her family) and gradually fall in love.

Watching the battle-scarred hero and heroine learn to trust and love was wonderful and the action-packed story was fun to read. The author had a good grasp not just on history, but on the spirit of the times and that made this quite a rewarding read. The flowing writing style, unusual characters and attention to detail make this book a winner. I would recommend hunting this down as soon as you can!

Summary: I loved this book so much that I read it twice!
Review: When Catrienne first meets Nicholas she is in awe of his boldness. Her friend Jasper is a great character and I can relate him to my brother, Robert. Nicholas is exactly the type of person that I would like to fall in love with. He is strong, cunning, swift, and romantic. Catrienne is exactly like me. She is stubborn and very determined to get what she wants. I really love historical romances and am looking for more books of Mrs. Maynard's. She is a brilliant author. I read this book every chance that I got and I also read until four o'clock one morning. I finally finished it.
