Summary: same concerns as others
Review: I have read the book twice, and now own four copies of it as a result of four recent orders I've placed with Vitaminshoppe.com.

I, too, was bothered by the constant hawking of his products, and couldn't quite reconcile some of the claims/timelines depicted in the book. Also, he takes credit for saving his grandmother's life! I just don't know how he could have done all of the necessary research to develop these products so rapidly and then gotten them into mass production, all the while obtaining numerous degrees and certifications, plus continuing to battle his disease. I did check and the school where he got his NMD is in Puerto Rico and is NOT accredited.

I have recently bought a number of his products and I'm hoping they're as life-changing as he claims. I want to believe. But the rational side of me is thinking that at the very least, some of his claims are hyperbolic.

I, too, am bothered by those who call themselves Dr. Whatever, in an attempt to deliberately make people think they're an MD. Frankly I put Dr. Phil in this category. He talks and words things like he's an MD, and he's actually a PhD.

Summary: A complete revival of my life!
Review: I met Dr. Jordan Rubin at a business meeting in November 2003, and he gave me a copy of this book after I told him I had been suffering from fibromyalgia (and arthritis) for over 11 years. He also gave me an advance copy of his new book (Maker's Diet) that is coming out next month, and the two volumes have totally changed my life. In only a few weeks of following his recommendations and guidelines and using just a few of the products, my symptoms have already diminished about 85%! I've lost weight and inches and feel like a renewed person. After trying so many other plans and products over the years, I had almost lost hope of ever being well again. Now, I know I'm on the road to complete health. While I don't know how the program will work for others, just seeing the difference in before and after cholesterol and triglyceride tests makes me believe that most people can benefit from the sound principles found in the pages of Dr. Rubin's books!

Summary: Some ok advice, but lots of marketing from the "Doctor"
Review: I received this book free (which is the fair price for it) at a local nutrition store when I purchased a product made by the author's company. Basically, the book contains some ok and mostly common-sense dietary advice, but unfortunately it also reads like a 300-page advertisment for the company's products. (No wonder the book was free!) The book contains several scientifically questionable assertions, and it also contains time/event sequences about the author's life that, upon close scrutiny, don't add up.

And thus, my primary gripe is with the author himself. "Dr." Jordan Rubin does not, in fact, hold a doctorate degree from any institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Which makes sense. I mean, a real Naturopathic Doctor degree is obtained by attending a four-year naturopathic medical school (and that's after four years of college). So how would the 28 year-old Rubin have attended college, medical school, done his residency, and established a company that is now a couple of years old, ALL while battling the crohn's disease that he claims almost took his life?!? This story just doesn't quite add up and unfortunately, this poses a bit of a credibility problem for the author. Could it be that Mr. Rubin obtained his "doctorate" from one of the many unaccredited "N.M.D." correspondence programs widely available through the Internet? I don't know, but regardless, I am always leary of individuals who use dubious credentials after their name in an attempt to establish credibility, and in this case, to sell a book and the company's products. On that count, and based on my other criticisms both listed and unlisted here, I can't recommend this book or the products pushed in it.

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: I think this book is great! Rarely do we get health books with such an authentic and original message--especially one from a doctor and someone who has experienced near death.

Author Jordan Rubin, N.M.D., C.N.C., survived terminal Crohn's disease. His personal story of his relentless battle with an incurable disease in conjunction with his strength, courage and determination not to "give in to the disease" makes this story one that anyone who has loved someone who is terminally ill or one who is sick needs so they will learn to learn how not to give up faith that there is a cure.

Jordan's experience with alternative medicine--his details on what truly is a healthy diet and the cure that he eventually discovered within the primitive or Maker's diet--his work with homeostatic soil organisms--and understanding of the "alchemy" of fermented foods--gives hope to everyone with an incurable disease.

Read this book if you are healthy, if you are sick, or if you simply want to reconnect with what is truly a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Summary: An incredible story
Review: I was impressed by the personal story of Jordan Rubin as well as the information presented about the healing power of foods. I have been frustrated by a "health-care" system that pushes people towards toxic drugs without looking into any other alternatives, such as diet, or lifestyle.

This book lays out some sound advice at preventative health. It is definitely worth looking into.

Summary: In response to N. Palm Beach residents slander
Review: I would like to know how close of a friend the individual from North Palm Beach was to Jordan. Of course you never saw him sick because his illness happened in college. Or did you atted Florida State as a close friend of his? Get your facts straight before you make yourself look so foolish through a response like this.

Summary: Patient Heal Thyself with Garden of Life Products
Review: If you can get past the controversy surrounding Jordan Rubin's credentials and the "infomercial" aspects of this book then, by all means, buy it! I can attest from personal experience that Garden of Life products are very effective and I highly recommend them.

I've been taking Primal Defense, RM-10, Revivall Classic, and Omega-Zyme regularly for the past six months and I must say I've never felt better. I've lost weight and my allergies are under control to the point where I no longer need to take Allegra. I also have more energy and stamina than I've had in years.

The only rub is these products are very expensive though I must say the benefit you get from taking these supplements outweighs the cost. Also, some of the foods Rubin recommends (e.g., grass fed beef) are hard to come by, especially if you live in an urban area like I do.

Nevertheless, this book offers a lot of good, if not unconventional, insights on health, nutrition, and natural/spiritual healing. In reading this book, one would do well to keep in mind the words of Sirach, "The Lord created medicines from the earth, and a sensible man will not despise them." (38:4)

Summary: Ancient wisdom and modern science
Review: Information on Patient Heal Thyself: A Remarkable Health Program Combining Ancient Wisdom With Groundbreaking Clinical Research is extremely valuable. Explanations are given in detail and it is easy to understand. I tried many diets and the best result I got is from this book.

Since I have been on this diet, all the cravings for junk food have gone. I was someone who lived for sugar and now I do not want any of it. I use to crave coffee in the morning as well but realized I didn't want that wired up feeling & acid stomach. I switched over to a caffeine-free coffee substitute made from soyabeans I found on the net at www.S o y c o f f e e.c om. It so easy for someone to tell you to eat less, but if you are craving bad foods, eventually you will fail. In the first five days I was on this diet all the craving ceased and I was already 8 lbs down. If you were like me and cannot wait for your next slice of cake and at the same time really want to change your lifestyle, Try this.
