Rating: Summary: great page turner Review: I couldn't put this one down. It is one of Jodi Picoults's best books yet.It concerns sexual abuse of a 5 year old boy. The mother, Nina, is a prosecuter by profession and is trying to put away these child molesters all the time. She knows how difficult this can be. When her husband and her find out her son is a victim you find out how this can tear a family apart. The book goes into how each parent, Nina the mother and Caleb the father cope. Plus, you go into the mind of Nicholas, the young boy, and how he is dealing with his world during this time. This is a very taut and suspensful story with a lot of twists and turns. I found myself admiring and loathing Nina all at the same time yet feeling nothing but deep concern for Caleb and Nicholas. This is a very good book with a great ending!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Another winner from Picoult Review: Most of Picoult's previous novels challenge the reader to ask him/herself difficult--and sometimes, painful--questions, and deal with topical, controversial and important subject matter. PERFECT MATCH is no exception. I found it to be a most compelling, thought-provoking read filled with suspense that also explores the issues of trust and the ties that hold a family together. One of Picoult's best. Recommended for book discussion groups.
Rating: Summary: Another Great Read Review: Jodi does it again. I just finished reading an ARC. The novel is well paced, a great story, endearing characters, and a twist only Jodi could invent. Bravo!
Rating: Summary: Piquant and Pertinent! Review: ... Once again, Picoult has managed to take a timely topic and give it a new twist. Instead of being a tragic tale about the horrors of child molestation, "Perfect Match" is a thought-provoking exploration of our justice system and the complexities of vengeance. From the first whisper of trouble when the Frost child suddenly refuses to speak, to the revelation of the molester's identity, to the tragic courtroom shooting, "Perfect Match" continues to surprise readers at every turn. It is a testament to Picoult's writing skills that she manages to keep readers guessing as to the identity of the child molester and the motivation of her narrator, Nina Frost. Picoult's crisp writing and sudden plot revelations come as a welcome change to other best-selling novels that get bogged down in oversimplified characters and predictable storylines. Another thing that sets Jodi Picoult apart is her ability to tackle tough subject matter. In her last novel, "Salem Falls," Picoult takes on another sexual abuse case, questioning our "right-to-know" in the case of criminals who have served their time. "In The Pact," she takes on the topic of teenage suicide and in "Plain Truth," she explores a child's murder in Amish country. Despite the fact that her novels are generally about extraordinary situations that could have come straight from the newspaper headlines, Picoult's plots are always grounded in the realism and complexity of her characters. "Perfect Match" is another riveting and topical novel from an up-and-coming New England author that is sure to gain in popularity with each new and exciting offering.
Rating: Summary: One of Picoult's Best! Review: WOW! Jodi Picoult has done it again. This was a powerful novel. There were so many twists and turns I was getting whiplash from all the shocking surprises. And I never saw the ending coming - something that has become quite a hallmark for Jodi Picoult books. I wasn't sure I would be comfortable reading about sexual assault on a young child and in less talented hands readers might have a really difficult time dealing with the subject matter. However emotion should be Picoult's middle name and she is masterfully tells this story in such a way you are disgusted by the crime, but simply unable to stop reading. One has to wonder what they would have done in Nina's shoes. She certainly had her faults, but one thing you can't fault her for is the love for her son. This book would be great for book groups to read as there is so much here for thoughtful discussion. Another book that further justifies Picoult's place as one of my favorite authors.
Rating: Summary: You have to keep reading! Review: I have been impressed again with the authors ability to keep me reading. In her first few pages she makes you think you have it figured out but she twists the story so well. She made me care for the people involved. It is so nice to find a smart and interesting writer.
Rating: Summary: Moral delimma I never want to face Review: This is a heartwrenching book for a parent to read. You repeatedly ask yourself if you would be driven to the same actions as Nina. The twist about the killer makes this book hard to put down. I subtracted one star because I doubt if the sentence handed down is realistic. A great read.
Rating: Summary: A review from a huge Jodi Picoult fan.... Review: I can't tell you how glad I am that I stumbled upon this marvelous author. Many times I will walk through my favorite bookstores with my arms full of books, I'll pick up anything because I am so anxious for something really good to read, something to sink my teeth into, something to feed my soul. Jodi Picoult does just that. Her talent for writing seems effortless. She draws the reader in with her fluid style, which is all at once full of wonderful description and dialogue, so that the reader may share the experience with the characters in the novel. I think that's just it....the characters become real people for me right away and I root for them and cry with them and wonder what happened to them long after I've finished the book.
In this one, Nina Frost is a prosecutor who deals with the dregs of society every day. She thinks nothing of putting a child who has been molested on the stand to face his/her abuser as long as it means a conviction....all that changes when her five year old son, Nathaniel is abused and then we as the reader are whipped up right along with Nina when we are forced to ponder: How far is too far to go when one is seeking protection and justice for their child?
I think any reader that expects a little bit of intelligence out of an author and the reading experience will not be disappointed with a Jodie Picoult novel.
Rating: Summary: No words explain Review: I loved this book! I am young, and so I have only read so many books, but out of the ones that I have read, PERFECT MATCH is definately in the top ten. Although Picoult has written many books I have only read PERFECT MATCH and PLAIN TRUTH and both were beyond delightful. In this one, she uses raw emotions to describe what one mother does, after she finds out her son was molested. At the books conclusion, I could only wonder......what would my mother do????
Rating: Summary: Don't give up on her yet! Review: I enjoy reading books that Jodi Picoult has written. This particular book, however, disappointed me to no end. The idea of the story was excellent; it just wasn't developed fully. This book was more of what would happen to her if it was a perfect world. I found myself irritated and annoyed by Nina Frost. I actually hoped for a different ending. Usually, Picoult stays within the realm of reality. With this novel, however, she completely steps into her fantasies.
