Rating: Summary: One of The Best! Review: If you have to buy a World War II memoir, this is one of the top five I've ever read. It was originally titled "The Other Side of Time" and is one of the most gripping, interesting, and fascinating memoirs you will ever come across. I collect WWII memoirs and have hundreds. Dr. Phibbs' is one of my favorites. His description of having to perform surgery on Christmas Eve 1945, trying to grasp a spurting, slippery artery, trying to be calm, while listening to another soldier with a sucking chest wound waiting to be worked on, all the while being aware of the home-made Christmas tree in the corner and the battle going on outside the cellar, is one of the most unforgettable pieces of WWII writing to be found. Buy this book.

Rating: Summary: One of the best Review: Seriously. And I have read many memoirs. This one may not be for everyone though. It is not a feel good "oh what fun we had" type of thing. There are moments that will make the strongest wince, and be glad they were not a rifleman. War is a nasty awful thing and you see it here. The first chapter should be manditory reading for anyone being commisioned in any military force. Thanks Dr. Phibbs for something truly great
