Summary: Enjoyable
Review: I enjoyed this book very much. Not meant to be comprehensive, it gives a lot of information about the best beers in the world. It also rates pricing, availability and durability...something very unusual in a book like this. His quick guide gives you an instant pair up with foods and a lookup by characteristics. The visuals are spectacular and make you thirsty just by looking at them. A must-have for geeks and newbies alike.

Summary: Enjoyable and Accessable
Review: I've been enjoying premium beer for about 6 years now, but I still learned some things from this book. One of the things covered is the "Myth of Reinheitsgebot". Beaumont explains when this is important and when it is not. I also found the section on food pairing helpful because it gives parallels to wine and food pairings. With the exception of Pislners and Amber Ales, most styles of beer are explored with a couple of prime examples given. For each beer, Beaumont talks about good food pairings or good times to enjoy the style of beer as some are not as suited for mealtime. The wonderful pictures make the book truly enjoyable. While there are more comprehensive books available, this is a quick read that will give you a better appreciation of quality beer.

Summary: Decent introductory book
Review: This book is excellent for the person new to the world of good beer but the experienced "beer geek" is unlikely to find it rewarding for more than a few minutes. The presentation of the book is excellent. Mouthwatering photographs, nice text, good writing, etc. The author does a nice job of describing beer tasting, beer styles, beer production. Just 2 or 3 commercial beers are described from each beer style. None of this information will be new to someone who has read any other beer guide.

The title of this book might lead you to believe that the beers he covers are especially remarkable. But the beers described are not particularly unusual to the veteran beer drinker. I've been hunting beer in earnest for just about 10 years and I've had every beer he describes, and my tastings have been limited to North American distribution. Still, this would be an excellent book for someone who is just starting to learn about good beer.
