Review:

I think Mr. Urologist (I wont use Dr.) has no clue what he is talking about. I have no medical degree and can tell you that what he is saying is asinine. Water intoxication, in most cases, is found in triathletes, marathoners, and military. It only happens when they have drank EXCESSIVE (generally over 200 ounces) amounts in a small period of time. This caused their sodium and mineral balances to go awry and they got sick or died. If the Pee Doctor had actually read the book, he would see that Dr. Batman talks repeatedly about adding sea salt to your intake if you have concerns about water intoxication.

I have had the following benefits from increasing my water intake to half my body weight in ounces per day, plus an additional 1.5 ounces of water for every 1 ounce of caffeinated beverages. (for me this is 128 ounces of water a day, I weigh 220 and drink one 12-ounce soda a day) Again, follows is a list of the benefits I have had, if you don't believe me you are foolish. I have no reason to lie.

no depression
more energy
sleeping better
skin more elastic and generally healthier (I am getting compliments about my face)
increased sense of well-being or doing something positive for myself
full, clear urine
full, regular excrement
no back pain (lower)
reduced knee/joint pain
less pain in my damaged ulnar nerve
eat less
feel tired less
awareness of thirst has returned (I don't eat or do something else instead)
less heartburn

The absolute most positive and main effect is no depression. I am entirely astounded at the postive effect this has had on my life. I have gotten off meds and will never return, for now I know the true answer. Meds are good to get you through a bad spot, but they will not relieve your depression effectively over a long period of time. This doesn't even consider the horrible side effects.

It is so clear that this is the healthiest thing that you can ever do for yourself (a close #2 is regular cardiovascular and muscle-building exercise). I personally commit that you will have increased health and mentality if you drink the correct amount of water for yourself. Also, consult Dr. Weil regarding the power of your mind towards your health.

Peace and good hydration to you all.

Thanks Dr. Batman!!!!!! you are a life saver. I hope your message gets to more and more people. I am now having friends come back to me stating how they are noticing differences for themselves. No one really believes it until it happens to them, and when my friends saw the sincerity I had about my improvement they tried it themselves.

Thanks again. You have truly made the world a better place.

Summary: Dr. Batmanghelidj's motivation
Review: I bought this book from here on Amazon.ca where I buy almost all my books as I really enjoy this customer friendly site.
I am writing this review because the Author seems to sell this book with negitivity toward the medical profession of which is quite deserved. It is strange then to find this Author has written sevearl books to enhance your health as he cares so much more about than your health than your family physican. I question this as with all his books he changes a few sentences for the main points are the same. Drink water and don't be afraid of salt.
If that is the message of this book then way is Dr. Batmanghelidj so intent on making huge profits of the ill and those suffering from pain? Can he be satisfied with a DECENT profit? He is making huge amounts of money, much more than the locale GP. All he needed to do would be to write one book instead of taking advantage of the suffering public. I must say I lost respect for him. His pockets must be fairly deep.
Does drinking more water help with painful medical conditions? The answer is yes, it does. At least in my case I am happy with the outcome. Our first nine months are those which find us completely incased in water. So it is a simple conclusion really that we are all very dehydrated as children and adults.
I thank the good doctor for making the message available to us but as I said I think he is a little too interested in money has has no room to belittle the medical community while he has several titles to books that are 98% the same message. Only thing is you have to buy each book that offers a protential of offering new or more help.

Summary: Just plain old common sense
Review: I have a friend who drinks practically no water at all and eats very little if any fresh fruits and vegetables, yet she gives water to her dog and she waters her plants. She complains constantly about pain, and she's on about a half dozen medications. One day I asked her if she would ever consider stop feeding water to her dog. The obvious answer was "no." I was waiting for her to ask further questions, but alas, nothing. That's the problem with human nature. We just don't get it sometimes. If a plant dies without water or even too little water, why do human beings not consume adequate water? If you don't consume adequate water, you might want to tell your friends you're on the "slow suicide diet" because that's what insufficient water intake is.

As for the book, it was a little hard to read because it is technical and scientific. Much of the terminology was over my head, but a lot of the content was quite simple to understand in terms of how water affects food digestion, ulcers, our brain functions and so forth. Simply put, the author concludes that most disease and discomfort in the body is due to inadequate water intake. That's all. That sounds credible to me because I don't see any way the author could possibly make more money off his theories. He's not pushing food supplements or anything to sell. He's pushing water, and he even recommends tap water (no thanks).

When I first read the book, I immediately increased my water intake. I started drinking one to two glasses of water at least one-half hour before each meal to prepare my digestive system. Within a day or two I noticed an immediate change in my digestion. No more "brick" feeling in my stomach all afternoon while my food digested oh so slowly.

My only criticism of the book is that the author did not take into account that water can be ingested by eating fresh fruits and vegetables. He makes excellent points about how coffee, sodas and juices (canned) are not a substitute for water. There is no mention about fresh fruits and vegetables and the importance of consuming lots of these foods for their water content as well.

I highly commend the author for this book. The part about salt intake really surprised me. I have always heard that salt is "bad" for the body, yet the author says the exact opposite and explains it in convincing detail. All I can say is that I need to read and reread the book to remind myself to consume water regularly.

I'm giving this book five stars because it is worth it's weight in gold. It's mostly common sense mixed in with scientific and technical information which can be hard to follow at times unless you're into that stuff. I would be surprised if anyone read this book and was not convinced that drinking water was essential to health and well being.

Summary: A skeptic converts
Review: I have to admit that when I started to read this I thought the guy was a crackpot. For starters his claims seem outrageous: that water can treat and possibly cure most medical problems including heart disease, MS, hiatal hernia, obesity, headaches, backache, some cancers, etc. etc. Plus his book is filed with numerous photocopies of testimonial letters from patients claiming to have been cured by his water prescriptions. There were enough letters (circa 1993 and apparently all of his patients used typewriters which certainly dates the work) that instead of them being a comfort, they seemed to hint at an insecurity... "I know you think I'm crazy but look at all these people who believe in me." It made the presentation look less than professional. It lacked confidence.

However, he backs up his claims with some fairly detailed explanations of how the body works and the number of ways water comes into play. It certainly appears to have solid scientific foundation. And even though I can't shake off the idea that he's a bit of an eccentric, the message is potentially too important to discard offhand. I think if you ignore this information, you do so at your peril. You certainly cannot be harmed by his suggestions - you can only gain. In a way this info is so basic that I would recommend reading this before picking up any other book about your health ... particularly those in the diet category. Read Batmanghelidj before Atkins for sure.

The one major downside is that he doesn't really spell out a regime for how much water you should consume or when. From the testimonial letters you can roughly estimate the requirement but he should definitely consider bringing this info out in future editions of this book.

For being such an outspoken pioneer this work deserves 5 stars.

Summary: Great Book, Great Advice
Review: I read this book when it first came out in the UK, put the advice into practice, and immediately noticed a significant improvement in my general state of health, especially a decrease in headaches and back pain. Perhaps not so surprising, really, since Dr Batmanghelidj is a fully qualified doctor of medicine who came to the UK from Iran and worked at a major London hospital for some time.

I would also like to point out that this book is particularly important for people who have conditions where flushing the system is a major consideration - and this is indeed understood by the medical profession at large.
A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (an illness which already affects millions of people world-wide and which is said to be nearing "epidemic" proportions). One of the first things his doctor asked was how much water he drank per day. When he said 1-1.5 litres the doctor told him he should AT LEAST double his intake (2-3 litres per day).

Does water matter? You bet it does!
Has Dr Batmanghelidj done us one mighty big favour by publicising its importance? Seems to me that's exactly what this book has done.

Summary: 5 stars for content--2 for style
Review: Let me begin by saying that as a disgnosed asthmatic since age 3, Dr. B's ideas have--amazingly!--been the *only ones to ever suggest that asthma can be cured.*

And while I can't say it is 100% gone, my asthma is SOOO much better than it was using white man's medicine--you know, inhalers, prenizone, shots, etc. 20 years of that left me wheezing all the time. 1 month of water took care of it by and large, with occassional recurrances.

I would love to be an out an out believer in water. Dr. B certainly promises a lot with this book. My hunch is that he right on with most of it. I FEEL so much better since I started drinking at least 80 oz. of water daily.

It's just so simple, like he says. I mean, like plants, humans need water. Without water, plants shrivel and dry and die--is that really much different than what happens to dehydrated people as they age?

But the books reads like a 12th grade science project. With the exception of the letters from doctors and patients, and his own research into peptic ulcers (which DO seem grounded in scientific inquiry), I don't have the feeling that the rest is on a solid scientific ground. Let me be clear about it--my own experiences and my intuition tells me that Dr. B. is correct and justified to proclaim water as miracle. But the book itself, and the style its presented in don't by themselves give that degree of credibilty.

And he really could use a good copy editor and some advice to substitute his greatly overused "paradigm" word for "approach", because there is nothing world-view or all-encompassing about water, as "paradigm" is defined (inaccurately--read Thomas Kuhn's original work and try to come up with that definition! Just try!) No, drinking and studying water and its effects are more about approach than "big meta-idea" of the new paradigm.

Dr. B. is to be commended for this work. It has helped me immeasurably. It's a good book, but it demends follow up, further documentation, which might include footnotes and endnotes published with the work for more clarification (an issue he was to work out with his publisher--negotiate, man!) and all in all needs a less dogma and more explanation.

But thank you, Dr. Batmanghelidj for this work. It is much needed. It is so good that we need more of it! Keep it coming!

Summary: Highly recommended!
Review: Such a simple solution for my aches and pains. After trying the water drinking formula for several weeks, many of the nagging ailments and pains have dissappeared! Athelete's foot, lower back pain, abdominal bloating, constipation - gone! All that was needed was a good internal, natural flushing. I can't stop telling my friends and family.

Summary: He's a quack
Review: The man doesn't believe that AIDS is "caused by a virus." It says so right there in this book. He also hasn't published any real studies about his "water cure." If the effects were as dramatic as he says, the medical world would be all over it, just like they always tell everybody to exercise and eat well.

I have no doubt that chronic dehydration is bad for you, and I'm sure that drinking only water and rarely caffeinated drinks or alcohol is better for you, but this guy is just ridiculous.

Summary: Deaf to my Body's Cries!
Review: These are WORDS OF WISDOM, self-published at his own expense and because of the conspiracy to keep water a SECRET, by a True Compassionate Saint, Scholar and Genius. I was not a healthy person before discovering water. Thanks to water, I have cured myself of cancer of every major organ, leukaemia, anaemia and hyperchromatosis and auto-immune disorders such as lupus, scleroderma, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Wegener's granulomatosis, Addison's disease, Crohn's disease, Sjogren's syndrome,Goodpasture's syndrome, and Grave's Disease. I also had suffered from Parkinson's Disease and Diabetes I and II and Hepatitis A, B, C, and D. Specialists were of no help - they accused me of hypochondriasis (and refused to test me for it although they referred me to a psychopharmacologist who prescribed several drugs - none of which were generic - thus supporting the conspiracy of the pharmaceutical industry and the government and the American Medical Association to keep America drugged and TOXIC)and told me that my tests were NORMAL and NEGATIVE - and refused to talk to me when I asked WHO the arbiters of NORMAL were? WHO determines whether or not your red and white blood counts are "NORMAL"? I have not been able to get an answer to this question. Do we have tests for EVERY viral and bacterial infection out there? NO! But with water, we don't NEED tests or harmful drugs because water is THE CLEANER PAR EXCELLENT. Think about it - when you spill a substance, do you THINK about what it is before sponging it up? NO. You don't need to think with water - it is natural and clear. It is odourless, colourless and tasteless. It is the perfect substance. If more people drank water and listened to their dying dehydrated cells' calling out for the ELIXER OF LIFE, we would be a 3H - happy, healthy and hydrated! Don't let the naysaying of a few quacks who are only in it for the money deter you. Take your life into your own hands - drink water - lots and often!

Summary: He's Right In Many Respects
Review: While I don't buy every word the man said (who does with anybody)I whole heartily agree with practically all the man said. I have believed water to be very good for you from reading bodybuilding magazines over the years but I had no idea how plain water could so positively affect the proper function of so much of the body. The book re-enforced what I already knew and believed but more than that it brought to light many things I didn't know. The book is an easy read with most chapters being 20 pages or less so it can be read in just a few days. Much of the scientific jargon is broken down into layman's terms rather well. I will be keeping my copy for reference and buying a copy for friends and family. One very interesting fact Dr. Batmanghelidi brings up is that he don't sell water. Shows me he is truly (most likely anyhow) concerned with helping people and not just blasting the medical profession, or rather the medical profession's main objective and that is money instead of creating a healthier society and caring for people. If there is a downside to the book it is that he does have a sharp tongue of criticism toward some doctors and organizations. Still, the man can back up what he says. Get the book and read it. You'll be glad you did.
